This study explored the meaning of the mother narrative of married migrant women in Korean multicultural society after exploring the ‘mother narrative’ based on the story formed by marriage migrant women in their relationship with their children. The ‘mother’s narrative’, which is a key term in this study, refers to the narratives of mothers formed in the relationship with ‘You’, that is, ‘Children’, which belong to a being that has a strong influence on the life of married migrant women. For the study, the ‘mother’s narrative’ was reconstructed by type by selecting data on the life stories of nine married migrant women and analyzing the contents described based on their relationship with their children. As a result of the study, the mother’s narrative was identified as a “universal mother’s narrative in raising children” and a “immigrant mother’s narrative in children’s education” that strongly reflects the special experiences of migrants in children's education. In the narrative of a married immigrant woman’s mother, not only the narrative as a mother of one child but also the narrative of a migrant, which means a relationship with Korean residents, were overlapped, and in particular, the narrative of a migrant was found to work more strongly in children’s education. The discussion of the mother’s narrative of married migrant women is important in that it takes a step forward from understanding the lives of married migrant women living as mothers to discover the social meaning and the principle of forming narratives in Korean multicultural society.

본 연구는 결혼이주여성이 자녀와의 관계에서 형성하는 이야기를 바탕으로 ‘어머니 서사’를 모색한 후 한국 다문화사회에서 결혼이주여성의 어머니 서사가 갖는 의미를 탐 색하였다. 본 연구의 핵심 용어가 되는 ‘어머니 서사’는 결혼이주여성의 삶에 강한 영향 력을 미치는 존재에 속하는 ‘너’, 즉 ‘자녀’와의 관계에서 형성되는 어머니의 내러티브를 의미한다. 연구를 위해 9명의 결혼이주여성의 생애담 자료를 선정하여 자녀와의 관계 를 중심으로 기술된 내용을 분석하여 ‘어머니 서사’를 유형별로 재구성하였다. 연구 결 과 어머니 서사는 ‘자녀 양육에 나타난 보편적 어머니 서사’와 자녀 교육에 이주민의 특 수한 경험이 강하게 반영되어 나타나는 ‘자녀 교육에 나타난 이주민 어머니 서사’로 확 인되었다. 결혼이주여성의 어머니 서사에는 한 자녀의 어머니로서의 서사 뿐만 아니라 정주민과의 관계를 의미하는 이주민 서사가 중첩되어 나타나고 있었고 특히 이주민 서 사는 자녀 교육에 있어 더욱 강력하게 작동하고 있음을 발견하였다. 결혼이주여성의 어머니 서사에 대한 논의는 어머니로 살아가고 있는 결혼이주여성들의 삶을 개인적 차 원에서 이해하는 데서 한 걸음 나아가 그들의 서사가 한국 다문화사회에서 갖는 사회 적 의미와 서사의 형성 원리를 발견하게 해 준다는 데 중요한 의의를 갖는다.
