The purpose of this study is to investigate the ways for stimulating professionals’ creativity that performing more creative jobs compared to other occupations. This study extensively reviwed previous studies on creativity and job characteristics in advance, and then suggested three factors such as job complexity, time pressure, and work overload to expand our understanding of job characteristics that are closely relevant to creativity these days. After that, this paper examines how these three factors influence creativity as an exploratory study. More specifically, this study proposed three research questions and tested them. This study utilized the hierarchical regression analysis using 255 professionals dyad samples. The analytical results showed that job complexity positively influeced creativity, but both time pressure and work overload negatively affected creativity. Based on theoretical arguments and empirical findings, this study proposed several suggestions for stimulating professionals’ creativity and discussed implications as well as limitation for future research.

본 연구는 창의성이 보다 요구되는 직무를 수행하는 전문직 종사자들의 창의성 향상을 위한 방안을 모색하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 먼저 창의성 및 직무특성 관련 선행문헌들을 다각적으로 검토하고, 창의성 측면에서 기존 직무특성이 론에서 보다 논의가 필요한 특성들 세 가지(직무복잡성, 시간적 압력, 직무과부하)를 제시 하였다. 이후 이러한 세 가지 요소들이 창의성에 어떠한 영향을 줄 것인지에 대한 탐색적 연구를 진행하였다. 즉, 세 가지 요소들이 창의성에 어떠한 영향을 줄 것인가에 대한 연구 질문들을 제시하고, 이를 전문직 종사자 255명의 상사-부하 쌍(dyad) 데이터를 통해 회귀분석을 실시하여 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 직무복잡성은 창의성에 정(+)의 영향 을, 시간적 압력과 직무과부하는 창의성에 부(-)의 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 문제제기 및 실증분석을 바탕으로 결론에서는 전문직 종사자의 창의성 향상을 위한 제언 들을 제시하였으며, 본 연구의 시사점 및 향후 연구 방향성에 대해서도 논의하였다.
