In order to prepare for a rapidly changing future society such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and COVID-19, this study focused on student agency as an important competency, and aimed to discuss the role of teachers by exploring the concepts and values of the times. As a result of the study, student agency is a competency that learners must have as value-oriented decision makers in a society with various relationships, and teachers are another key entity that supports students' learning and growth in consideration of the learner's contextual environment. The teacher's role in this is first, a truster who builds a reliable relationship with learners through true interaction, second, a facilitator of learning behavior that stimulates the desire to learn and supports the information and resources needed to achieve the goal, third, an objective mirror, and a mental trainer.

본 연구는 4차 산업혁명 및 코로나19 등 급변하는 미래사회를 준비하기 위해 학습자 주도성을 중요한 역량으로 주목하고, 이에 따른 개념과 시대적 가치가 무엇인지 탐색하여 교사의 역할이 무엇인지 논의하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구결과, 학습자 주도성이란 학습자가 다양한 관계를 맺고 있는 사회 안에서 가치지향적인 의사결정자로서 갖춰야 하는 역량이며, 교사는 학습자의 상황맥락적 환경을 고려하여 학생의 배움과 성장을 지원하는 또 하나의 핵심 주체임을 시사하였다. 이에 대한 교사의 역할은 첫째, 학습자와 참된 상호작용을 통해 신뢰로운 관계를 맺는 신뢰자(relier), 둘째, 학습의욕을 자극하고 목표 달성에 필요한 정보와 자원을 지원하는 학습행동 촉진자(facilitator), 셋째, 학습자의 학습 과정과 그 결과에 맞춤형 피드백을 줄 수 있는 객관적인 거울(objectified mirror), 넷째, 학습자가 문제해결 과정에서 느끼는 정서적 역량 관리를 지원하는 마음 근육 트레이너(mind trainer), 마지막으로 학습 전 과정의 방향이 사회에 기여하고 선한 영향력을 미치는 사람으로 만드는 조력자(helper who makes good influence)를 논의하였다.
