This article explains what educational purposes, backgrounds, and objectives are operated by learning support institutions such as communication centers at universities in Korea, and examines examples of their major programs, and finds out how to activate desirable communication centers. It seeks to find a way to realize learner-centered communication education. The new role of the communication center is to lead the learners to learn the value of caring for others and further expand their understanding of linguistic empathy and social communication by supervising writing, speaking, reading and discussion, and various small group programs. That is to say, the communication center's learning support activities also contribute to leading the learner's mental culture, and in this respect, it is necessary to give a new light on the role of the humanities-based communication center presented in this article.

이 글은 국내 대학의 의사소통센터 등과 같은 학습지원기관들이 과연 어떤교육적 목적과 배경, 취지를 갖고 운영하고 있으며 그 주요 프로그램들은 무엇인지 사례들을 살펴보고 학습자 중심의 바람직한 의사소통센터의 발전 방향과그 의미에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 의사소통센터의 새로운 역할은 글쓰기, 말하기, 독서와 토론, 다양한 소모임 프로그램 등을 주관하며 언어적 공감 능력과 사회적 소통에 대한 이해를 확장하고 타인에 대한 배려의 가치를 배워나가게 함으로써 학습자 자신의 정신적 성장을 도모하는 것에서도 그 중요한 의미를 찾아볼수 있다. 이 글은 경기대 등 일부 대학들의 사례들을 예시하고 의사소통센터의학습지원 활동이 학습자의 정신문화를 선도해 나가는 데 있어서도 기여하는 바가 크다는 것을 말하고자 한다. 말하자면 논자는 대학에서 소통역량을 활성화하기 위한 인문기반(humanities-based) 의사소통센터의 역할과 의미에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.
