This article analyzes the novel Neon Cemeteries from the metaphor of the title that refers to the problem of writing history and the absence of certain social sectors in the history of nations. We consider the Michel de Certeau’s theoretical premises on what is absent in the writing history, through the image of the cemetery and the act of burial. Paul Ricoeur returns to both in his reflection on writing as a cemetery of the dead and the absent forgotten by official history. We will try to demonstrate how the history of Korea and Colombia is represented with characters related to the Korean Civil War, and what would be the sense of returning to the subject of Colombian veterans in a 21st century novel.

Este artículo analiza la novela Cementerios de neón a partir de la metáfora del título que remite al problema de la escritura de la historia y a la ausencia de ciertos sectores sociales en la historia de las naciones. Consideramos las premisas teóricas de Michel de Certeau sobre lo ausente en el registro de la historia, a través de la imagen del cementerio y del acto de sepultar. Paul Ricoeur retoma ambos en su reflexión sobre la escritura como cementerio tanto de los muertos como de los ausentes olvidados por la historia oficial. Trataremos de mostrar en qué medida se representa la historia coreana y colombiana con personajes relacionados con la Guerra civil de Corea, y cuál sería el sentido de retomar el tema de los veteranos colombianos en una novela del siglo XXI.
