The purpose of this study was to provide alternatives for how to reflect core competencies in curriculum of liberal arts education, analyze the effects, and improve the curriculum. For this study, previous researches on how to set and measure core competencies in the liberal arts education were analyzed and implications were drawn. Introducing a competency-based curriculum in the liberal arts education, it is necessary to look at the operation of competency-based curriculum not simply as a social and functional point of view for nurturing human resources, but from the aspect of overall construction of an appropriate curriculum, educational methods, and educational infrastructure to help students grow even. The purpose of operating the curriculum centered on competencies is to help students to develop real world problem solving skills by narrowing the gap between learning in the classroom and actual performance from personal perspectives, and not only to establish policies but also to support and improve the educational environments as organizational perspectives. In order to actually operate a competencycentered liberal arts curriculum effectively, there have to be defined the core competencies pursued in the liberal arts curriculum, set the ratio of the core competencies that meet the goals of the liberal arts education and selected the core competencies matching the subjects. After the curriculum operation, there should be analyzed the degree of improvements in students’ core competencies and returned the results through curriculum improvement. In order for the competency-centered curriculum to operate effectively in the future, it is necessary to develop the appropriate teaching methods, models and reliable evaluation tools not centered on contents but focused on goals and methods for the liberal arts education.

본 연구의 목적은 교양교육에 있어서 핵심역량을 어떻게 교육과정에 반영하고, 그 효과를 분석하며, 환류를 통해 교육과정을 개선할 수 있을지에 대한 대안을 제 시하는 데 있었다. 본 연구를 위해 교양교육과정에서 어떻게 핵심역량을 설정하고 측정하는지에 대한 선행연구를 분석하고 시사점을 도출하였다. 교양교육과정에 역 량 중심 교육과정을 효과적으로 도입하기 위해서는 역량 중심 교육과정 운영을 단 순히 인력 양성을 위한 사회 기능적 관점으로 볼 것이 아니라 학생의 고른 성장을 돕기 위한 적절한 교육과정, 교육방법, 그리고 교육환경적인 인프라를 총체적으로 구축한다는 측면에서 바라볼 필요가 있다. 교육과정을 역량 중심으로 운영하는 목 적은 학생의 측면에서는 강의실에서 배우는 것과 실제 수행 간의 간극을 좁힘으로 써 실행력을 함양하도록 돕고, 조직의 측면에서는 교육과정 운영 성과를 기반으로 정책을 세울 뿐 아니라 정책 적용의 결과로 실제 교육과정을 개선하고 환류할 수 있도록 지원하기 위한 것이다. 실제로 역량중심 교양교육과정을 운영하기 위해서 는 교양교육과정에서 추구하는 핵심역량을 정의하고, 대학의 인재상과 교양교육대 학의 목표에 부합하는 핵심역량의 구성 비율을 설정한 후, 교과목별로 주요 핵심역 량을 매치할 필요성이 있다. 교육과정을 운영한 후에는 핵심역량의 변화 정도를 분 석하고 그 결과를 교육과정 개선을 통해 환류할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 향후 역량 중심 교육과정이 효과적으로 운영되기 위해서는 적절한 교양교육 방법과 교수 모 형의 보급, 신뢰로운 평가 도구의 개발, 그리고 교육과정에 대해 내용 중심이 아니 라 목표와 방법 중심으로 접근할 필요가 있을 것이다.
