The study purposed to explore the experiences of teachers who performed job of career teachers in elementary school. For this purpose, seven teachers who worked as career teachers in elementary schools were interviewed from November 2019 to April 2020. The study results were as follows. First, participants beginning for performing their job as career teacher in elementary school were due to the school administrator’s recommendation, voluntary, or inevitable to become a assigned teacher. Second, participants were mainly engaged in other works as assigned teacher or homeroom teacher rather than career education work. Third, career teacher in elementary school job recognized by participants were those that were difficult to link career counseling with homeroom teacher, neglected job, a job that could not require expertise, a job that ambiguous identity, and a job with incorrect names. This study is meaningful in that it explored in-depth experiences of participants in research on the beginning for performing their job as career teacher in elementary school, job performance pattern, job recognition, It is meaningful in that it provided data to carry out follow-up research on career teacher in elementary school by discussing and suggesting implications for the results derived.

이 연구는 초등 진로전담교사 직무를 수행했던 교사들의 경험을 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 초등 진로전담교사로 근무했던 7명의 교사를 연구 참여자로 하여 2019년 11월부터 2020년 4월까지 인터뷰를 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들의 초등 진로전담교사 직 무수행 계기는 관리자의 권유나, 자발적이거나, 보직교사를 하기 위해 어쩔 수 없는 경우였다. 둘 째, 연구 참여자들은 진로교육 업무보다는 보직교사나 담임 업무 등의 타 업무를 주로 하고 있었 다. 셋째, 연구 참여자들이 인식하는 초등 진로전담교사 직무는 담임교사와의 진로상담 연계가 어 려운 직무, 등한시되는 직무, 전문성이 요구될 수 없는 직무, 정체성이 모호한 직무, 명칭이 잘못 된 직무였다. 이 연구는 초등 진로전담교사라는 직무를 수행하게 된 계기부터 직무수행 양상, 직무 인식에 관해 연구 참여자들의 심층적인 경험을 탐구하였고, 도출한 결과에 대한 논의 및 시사점을 제시하여 초등 진로전담교사와 관련한 후속 연구를 수행할 수 있는 자료를 제공했다는 점에서 의의 가 있다.
