Some philosophers have maintained that if determinism hold, then we can not place moral responsibility for one's behavior on the agent. Is it true? The answers depend on the meanings of two key words, i.e., "cause" and "freedom." So, in this paper, I will make clear that "behavior by cause" does not means "lack of freedom." and then I will assert that moral responsibili쇼 can be compatible with determinism.

필자는 이 글에서 인간의 행위를 포함해서 모든 사건은 선행하는 원인 조건에 의해 결정된다는 결정론의 기본 주장을 승인하는 한편, 결정론과 도덕적 책임에 간한 논쟁의 핵심 용어인 “원인”과 “자유”의 의미 분석을 통해 “원인에 의한 행위”가 “자유롭지 못한 행위”를 뜻하는 것이 아님을 밝힘으로써, 도덕적 책임이 결정론과 양립할 수 있음을 밝힌다.
