This study aims to discuss how the college English program as general education should be adapted to the new circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly based on the answers of 248 undergraduate students to a weekly and term-end questionnaire, all of whom attended the 14 week on-line classes. The analysis on the negative and positive aspects of asynchronous on-line classes is presented. The results showed that they had difficulty with the low voice recordings and the unbalanced sound, assignment submission, instruction speed, self-directed learning, and lack of communication. However, they were satisfied withth e learning effectiveness due to iterative listening, appropriate organization and partitioning, and the presentation of diverse materials. In terms of on-line lecture type, they have a preference for the asynchronous type during the continuing COVID-19 crisis of the 2020 fall semester. When it comes to the post-COVID-19 college English program as general education, their preference for an on-line only type of class is divided. It seems that they were cautious about an off-line only type and positive about an on-and off-line blended type of class. This research has significance in that the findings can be used as a basic reference regarding the design and implementation of similar online classes.

본 연구는 코로나 19로 인한 2020년 1학기 전면 온라인 방식의 대학 교양영어 수업 사례를 바탕으로 향 후 교양영어 수업 방식에 대해 논의해 보고자, 14주간 비실시간 교양영어 수업을 수강한 학부 수강생 248명의 기말 설문과 매주 과제 수행에서의 답변을 분석한 결과를 제시하였다. 비실시간 온라인 수업을 수강하면서 학습자들이 제기한 문제점은 영상의 소리 크기와 불균형, 과제제출과 관련한 부담감 및 불안함, 빠른 강의 진행 속도, 자기 주도학습의 어려움, 소통의 부재 등이었으며, 긍정적 평가 부분은 반복재생학습을 통한 학습효과의 증대, 효율적 강의 구성의 장점 활용, 다양한 교재 및 자료의 효율적 제시를 통한 학습 효과 증대 등이었다. 코로나 19의 위기가 지속하고 있는 상황에서 온라인강의를 연장할 경우, 학생들은 2020년 2학기에도 동일한 방식의 비실시간 온라인 수업을 선호하는 것으로 조사되었다. 코로나 19가 진정된 이후, 교양영어 수업방식에 관한 생각은 온라인 방식에 대해서는 의견이 나뉘며, 오프라인 방식에 대해서는 다소 소극적인 의견이 우세하다고 볼 수 있는 반면, 온⋅오프 라인 혼합방식에 대해서는 긍정적인 의견이 우세한 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구 결과는 코로나 19로 인한 온라인 수업 시행과 관련하여 학습자의 반응을 살펴본 사례연구로 유사한 과목의 온라인 수업 설계 및 운영과 관련한 기초 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 본다.
