This study diagnosed that the pedagogy for theses which is most important in academic writing of foreign graduate students has not been sufficiently sought. The reconstruction orientation of lectures for genre learning was, therefore, determined around the advantages of explicit and implicit genre pedagogy. A task was created to promote the interaction between two kinds of pedagogy and was reconstructed as the 'thesis lecture'. This study applied such reconstructed lecture to graduate schools in which many foreign graduate students are actually registered and evaluated their satisfaction with it. The result of evaluation was very positive. In particular, they responded that such lectures contributed to the rhetorical structures, core contents and paradigm construction in theses. In addition, various parts of theses were found to require learning for tasks and activities enhancing academic literacy. Foreign graduate students' academic literacy is expected to be improved and their theses successfully finished, by actively seeking methods to enhance academic literacy in academic writing including theses.

본 연구는 대학원 유학생의 학술적 글쓰기에서 가장 중요한 ‘학위논문’에 대한 교육적 방법 모색이 부족하다고 진단했다. 그래서 장르 학습에서 ‘명시적 접근법’과 ‘암시적 접근법’의 장점을 중심으로 강의 재구성의 방향을 확정했다. 그리고 이 두 교육법의 상호작용을 촉진할 수 있는 ‘과제(task)’를 만들고 이를 ‘학위논문 강의’로 재구성해 보았다. 이 재구성한 강의를 실제 유학생이 많이 다니는 대학원에 적용하고, 대학원 유학생들의 인식 조사와 만족도 평가를 받았다. 만족도 평가는 매우 긍정적이었고, 인식 조사 결과 대학원 유학생들은 이 강의를 통해서 학위논문의 ‘수사적 구조’와 핵심 내용, 그리고 패러다임 구성 등에서 도움을 받았다고 밝혔다. 추가적으로 학위논문의 다양한 부분에서 ‘학술적 리터러시’를 향상시킬 수 있는 과제와 활동에 대한 학습 요구가 있는 것도 확인했다. 대학원 교육과정에서 학위논문의 장르적 특징을 대학원 유학생에게 전달할 수 있는 장르 교육이 활발히 진행되고, 학위논문에 대한 대학원 유학생의 직감이 강화되어야 할 것이다. 그래서 대학원 유학생이 학위논문에 대한 강화된 직감과 풍부한 장르 지식을 바탕으로 학위논문을 성공적으로 완성할 수 있기를 바란다.
