The goal of this paper is to learn lessons from the selfreflective perspective how Christianity responded to the previous three Industrial Revolutions. The lessons will be a starting point for the preparation of Korean Churches to cope with the challenge of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The lessons can be summarized as follows. First, Korean churches weren’t academically interested in the issue of technology (society) because of urgent political issues such as human rights, democracy and Korean re-unification out of the economic growth under autocracy. Second, they were captivated by groundless phobia and enthusiasm for innovative technologies due to their lack of ability to discern the complexity of technology and their features. Third, they dealt with the issue of technology (society) from their fatalistic attitude which approaches to a strict dualistic view of selection between ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’ or ‘Technopia’ and ‘Dystopia.’ Therefore, they could not appropriately judge the values of technology between human liberation and oppression. Building on this reflection, Korean churches should be more interested in the issue of technology (society) theologically and ethically. They should make an effort to cultivate their technology literacy for Korean Christians. Beyond the knowledge of the realities of technologies and their complexity, they need to carry out interdisciplinary research with politicians, economists, sociologists and theologians. Korean churches should not only educate the ability to recognize social conflicts caused by the introduction of innovative technology, but also foster their political responsibility for social consensus to overcome its disadvantages.

이 논문은 과거 세 차례 산업혁명에 대한 기독교의 대응을 자기반성적 관점에서 살펴서 교훈을 얻는 데 목적이 있다. 여기서 얻은 교훈은 4차 산 업혁명기를 맞은 한국교회의 바른 대응을 위해 필요한 출발점이 될 것이다. 세 차례 산업혁명기 교회의 대응에 대한 연구를 통해 우리가 반성하고 배울 점은 아래와 같다. 첫째, 한국교회는 세 차례 산업혁명의 과정을 압 축적으로 경험하느라 급변하는 정치현실에 휩싸이면서 산업사회의 토대인 기술(사회) 문제에 대해서 신학적으로나 윤리적으로 무관심했다. 둘째, 기 술문제의 특성과 복합성에 대해 이해력이 충분치 못한 결과 혁신기술에 대 해 근거 없는 공포와 열광이라는 혼란에 사로잡혔다. 혁신기술을 실체가 아닌 유령처럼 생각했음을 반성해야 한다. 셋째, 기술을 운명론적으로 접 근하여 신화화함으로써 기술을 윤리의 문제로 다루지 못한 잘못을 저질렀 다. 기술이 장점과 단점이 있음에도 불구하고 선악 이원론 혹은 테크노피 아와 디스토피아라는 기술결정론에 빠졌다. 이러한 반성에 기초해서 한국교회는 기술(사회)문제에 신학적으로나 윤리적으로 더 많이 관심하고, 기술들의 실체를 정확히 아는 데 힘써야 한 다. 그러려면 기술에 대한 공학적 이해를 넘어서 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화의 다양한 측면을 함께 살피는 학제 간 접근이 필요하다. 그리고 혁신기술의 도입으로 인해 생겨나는 윤리적 이슈들에 대한 판단능력을 기르고, 갈등을 넘어 사회적 합의를 끌어낼 수 있는 정치적 책임능력을 길러야 한다.
