This study examined the teaching and learning methods for Korean music appreciation presented in the music curriculum and textbooks for elementary schools by each period of revision to identify current status and any change over time. The scope of the study was limited to the methodological aspect(how) while excluding teaching and learning contents (what) and included the teaching and learning methods using data. First, the study examined the types and guidelines of the teaching and learning methods of Korean music appreciation through analyzing the contents of the music curricula for elementary schools. Based on the examination, it reviewed the teaching and learning methods of Korean music pieces centered on appreciation activities embodied in the elementary music textbooks of each period of revision. As a result, the changes in the teaching and learning methods were identified as follows. The teaching and learning methods of Korean music appreciation in the elementary school music curriculum and textbooks have drastically changed since the 2007 revised music curriculum and textbooks. The teaching and learning methods in the 1st to the 7th national curriculum and their textbooks were limited to using physical expressions and integrated activities. However, the revised music curricula and textbooks since 2007 presented more diverse and specific methods such as inter-curricular teaching, linking learning and arts, use of chuimsae, use of jeongganbo and gueumbo, use of various materials, use of visual, auditory, and physical activities, and use of various teaching and learning methods. There was also a phenomenon of integrating and expanding various types of teaching and learning methods. This trend was more prominent in the music textbooks than in the music curriculum, and the textbooks used more diverse types of teaching methods for Korean music appreciation than the curriculum. Besides these positive changes, a need for improvement is recognized as there is a tendency to lean too much towards the use of physical expression and materials. These changes are the result of actively implementing the demand for the development of various teaching and learning methods presented in the curricula of several periods of revision. The development of the teaching and learning methods of Korean music appreciation is expected to be achieved steadily.

본 연구는 국악 교수ㆍ학습 방법 중 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 변화 양상을 알아보고자 초등학교 음악과 교육과정과 교과서에 제시된 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법을 개정 시기별로 고찰하였다. 본 연구의 범위는 ‘무엇을’에 해당하는 교수ㆍ학습 내용은 제외하고 ‘어떻게’에 해당하는 방법적인 부분만 연구 내용으로 제한하였으며, 자료를 활용한 교수ㆍ학습 방법은 포함하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 개정 시기별 음악과 교육과정과 교과서의 국악 감상 교수․학습 방법을 살펴봄으로써 활용 실태를 알아보고 이를 통해 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 변천 양상을 파악하는 데 있다. 먼저 초등학교 음악과 교육과정의 내용 분석을 통해 개정 시기별 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 유형과 이에 대한 지침을 고찰하였고, 이를 바탕으로 개정 시기별 초등학교 음악 교과서에 구현된 감상 활동 중심 국악 제재곡의 교수․학습 방법을 살펴보았다. 그리고 고찰한 내용을 토대로 초등학교 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 변천 양상을 파악하였으며 결과는 다음과 같다. 초등학교 음악과 교육과정과 교과서에 제시된 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법은 2007년 개정 음악과 교육과정과 교과서를 중심으로 많은 변화가 나타났다. 제1차에서 제7차 음악과 교육과정과 교과서는 국악 감상 교수․학습 방법이 신체 표현을 활용하는 방법과 영역 또는 활동을 통합하여 지도하는 방법에 한정되어 있었으나 2007년 이후 개정 음악과 교육과정과 교과서는 교과 연계 지도, 예술 연계 지도, 추임새 활용, 정간보와 구음보의 활용, 다양한 자료의 활용, 시각적ㆍ청각적ㆍ신체적 활동 활용, 다양한 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 활용 등 보다 다양하고 구체적으로 제시되어 있었다. 또한 여러 유형의 교수․학습 방법을 통합하고 확대하여 활용하는 양상도 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 음악과 교육과정보다 음악 교과서에서 두드러졌으며 음악 교과서는 교육과정보다 더 다양한 유형의 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법이 활용되고 있었다. 하지만 이러한 긍정적인 변화뿐 아니라 신체 표현 활용과 다양한 자료의 활용에 편중되는 경향이 있어 이에 대한 개선이 필요함을 알게 되었다. 이와 같은 국악 감상 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 변천 양상은 여러 시기의 교육과정에서 제시한 다양한 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 개발이라는 요구를 적극적으로 실천한 결과라 판단하며 앞으로도 꾸준히 긍정적인 방향으로 발전할 것으로 기대한다.
