The discourse on adult education and learning methods has not been sufficiently discussed in Korea. The existing researches on adult education and learning methods show significantly engineering or trendy features. In this context, the Korean discussion on explorative learning method which has been expanded in Germany for a long time is much significant. This paper aims to understand the discourse on explorative learning method as the adult learning method discussed in Germany and to investigate the Korean contexts on such explorative learning method. To this end, this paper adopted the analytical and content-analysis research approach. The explorative learning, one of adult learning methods, has been expanded and discussed mainly in Germany. For the explorative learning method tracing back to the founding philosophy of modern college, that is, research and education by Humboldt, learners find out new awareness by themselves using a heuristic approach in accordance with each one’s internal motivation. The themes of inquiry may include the social issues or any tasks an organization face. Moreover, they can be the unique inquiry issues of a specific group or fundamental issues of a human being living in this world. At present, lots of learners in the turning point in their life have been frequently using the explorative learning method. It may be because they learn to find out the answers on fundamental issues in the turning point in their life.

한국에서의 성인교육방법과 성인학습방법 담론에 대한 논의가 많지 않으며 그 논의들 은 상당히 공학적이거나 유행적인 특성을 보여준다. 이러한 맥락에서 독일에서 오랜 기간 동안 확산되어 온 탐구학습방법에 대한 한국적 논의는 큰 의미가 있다. 본 연구는 독일에 서 논의되어 온 성인학습방법으로서의 탐구학습방법에 대한 담론에 대한 이해와 한국적 맥락을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 해석적, 내용 분석적 연구방법을 활용하 였다. 탐구학습이라는 성인교육 방법은 독일에서 주로 확산되어 논의되어 왔다. 훔볼트의 연구와 교육이라는 근대 대학의 설립 이념으로까지 거슬러 올라가는 탐구학습방법은 학습 자의 내면적 동기에 기반 하여 새로운 인식을 스스로 발견적으로 형성해간다. 탐구의 주 제는 사회적인 문제가 될 수도 있고 조직이 직면한 과제가 될 수도 있다. 그리고 특정한 집단이 안고 있는 탐구의 이슈도 가능하고 현재를 살아가는 인간에 대한 근본적인 주제도 가능하다. 현재 한국에서는 생애전환기에 놓여져 있는 많은 학습자들에게 탐구학습방법이 활용되고 있는데 이는 생애전환기에는 근본적인 물음에 대한 학습을 하고 있기 때문으로 이해된다.
