Moral reason and moral sentiment are important bifurcations for the character of ethics. Traditional Mencius-ethics studies relied on the Four Sprouts for problems of moral reason and moral sentiment. However, this study focuses on Yangqi(養氣) and develops the relationship between moral reason and moral sentiment. This study rejects the ontological approach of defining Mencius's moral sentiment as Reason(理). It sheds light on the integration of moral reason and moral sense through the network of relationships surrounding righteousness(義), mind(心), and vital energy(氣) of Mencius instead of the reason framework of Li Qi theory(理氣論). First, the relationship between mind(心) and vital energy(氣) is described through a medium of righteousness(義) to confirm the link between moral reason and moral sentiment. Next, some arguments are attempted to secure the universality of moral sensibility that remains in the experience class without transcendence. The success of this thesis confirms that Mencius-ethics can maintain the universality of reason while fully exercising the resource of the motive for practice called sentiment.

도덕이성과 도덕정감은 윤리학의 성격을 판별하는 중요한 분기점이 된다. 기존의 맹자 윤리학 연구는 도덕이성과 도덕정감의 문제를 사단 설에 의존하였다. 하지만 본 연구는 양기설을 중심으로 도덕이성과 도 덕정감의 관계를 전개한다. 본 연구는 맹자의 도덕정감을 리(理)로 규정하는 본체론적 접근 방 식을 거부한다. 이기론의 사유 틀 대신 맹자의 의(義)⋅심(心)⋅기(氣) 를 둘러싼 관계망을 통해 도덕이성과 도덕정감의 통합을 조명한다. 먼 저, 의를 매개로 심과 기의 관계를 서술하여 도덕이성과 도덕정감의 연결을 확인한다. 다음으로 초월하지 않고 경험층에 머무르는 도덕정 감의 보편성 확보를 위해 몇 가지 논증을 시도한다. 이 논증의 성공은 맹자 윤리학이 이성의 보편성을 견지하면서도 정감(情感)이라는 실천 동기의 자원을 온전히 발휘할 수 있음을 확증한다.
