The purpose of the study was to assess the agricultural literacy level of elementary school teachers and to suggest the plans to improve the agricultural literacy level of elementary school teachers. To achieve the purpose of the study, the survey research method was utilized. The subjects of the study was 200 of randomly selected graduate students enrolled in 2018 winter semester of the graduate school in OO university, and 156 respondents were analyzed. The major statistics methods used in the study were frequency, percents, mean, t-test, and F-test. The conclusions of the study were as follows: First, the agricultural literacy level of the elementary school teachers are not high. Furthermore, the level of ‘agricultural policy’ area and the level of ‘value and stability of agricultural products’ area in the agricultural literacy are especially low. Second. the 1st plan to improve the agricultural literacy level of the elementary school teachers was that the agricultural literacy course for general education level should be developed in the elementary school teacher education. The 2nd plan was that the Practical Arts subject should be educated from 3rd to 6th graders.

이 연구의 목적은 대구․경북지역의 초등학교 교사의 농업문해 수준을 측정하고 이를 바탕으로 초등학교 교사의 농업문해 수준 제고 방안을 마련하는데 있었다. 이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구 방법으로 조사연구를 적용하였다. 이 연구의 대상은 ○○대학교 교육대학원의 2018년 후학기 계절제 대학원생들 중 200명을 임의로 표집하였고 이들 중 156명을 분석에 이용하였다. 이 연구 에서는 금지헌 외(2012)가 개발한 ‘성인 대상 농업문해 측정 도구’를 수정하여 개발한 농업문해 측 정 도구가 사용되었다. 이 연구에 적용된 주요 통계 분석 방법은 빈도, 백분율, 평균, t-검증, F- 검증 등이었다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 교사의 농업문해 수준은 높지 않으며, 특히 ‘농업 정책’, ‘농산품의 가치와 안정 성’ 영역에 대한 수준은 매우 낮다. 둘째, 초등학교 교사의 농업문해 수준을 제고하기 위한 구체적인 방안은 다음과 같이 제시되었 다. 1. 초등교사교육에 농업문해 관련 내용이 포함된 과목이 교양교육 차원에서 신설되어야 한다. 2. 초중등 학생들에게 지속적으로 농업 및 농산업 관련 경험을 제공해주어야 한다. 즉 초등학교에 서는 현재 5-6학년에 제공되는 실과교육을 적어도 1-2학년간의 통합교과가 끝난 3학년부터 6학년 까지 지속시킬 필요가 있다. 이는 중학교에서도 마찬가지로 기술 가정이 가르쳐지는 모든 학년에 농업 및 농산업 관련 내용을 가르쳐지는 교육과정이 구성되어야 한다.
