The purposes of this study were to investigate the virtue of a great person or sage-king based on the Ten Diagrams of Sage Learning (聖學十圖), and to explore the origin of Korean leadership. For these purposes, this study analyzed T’oegye’s the Ten Diagrams of Sage Learning, and tried to build the Korean leadership represented by Su-Gi-Chi-In (修己治人, self-cultivation for the governance of men). The Korean leadership in the Ten Diagrams of Sage Learning emphasizes the learning of Sage Learning (聖學) and acquisition of virtues, in addition to education and training to be a leader. That is, a leader should have moral values and virtues as a great person through self-cultivation. Thus the leadership to reform the world should be based on the leader’s personal morality cultivated through self-development. Implications for future research were discussed.

본 연구의 목적은 퇴계의 성학십도에 나타난 성인(聖人) 내지는 성왕(聖王)의 덕목을 살 펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 한국적 리더십이 무엇인지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 퇴계의 성학을 살펴보고 특히 성학십도를 분석하여 수기치인으로 대표되는 한국적 리더십을 모색 하고자 하였다. 본 연구결과, 성학십도에서 도출될 수 있는 한국적 리더십은, 한 나라나 조직의 리더가 되기 위해서는 리더가 되기 위한 교육이나 훈련도 필요하지만 이에 앞서 기본적으로 완성 된 도덕적인 인간이 되기 위하여 자기수양을 쌓아 성인으로서의 덕목을 갖추도록 하여야 하며, 자신의 도덕적인 신념을 바탕으로 나아가 이상사회를 실현하기 위한 리더십을 전개 해야 하는 것으로 이해할 수 있겠다. 따라서 향후 이와 관련한 다양한 연구들이 이루어져 야 할 것이다.
