To make the ‘idealization’, which used to be impossible in the real world, possible by vivid virtual images would seem a promising future. However, the anticipation and admiration for the progress of virtual images are only based on the belief that the virtual world can be controlled by the real one. From this view point, the and the are worth noticing. These texts show that the superior visual world has a power to substitute the real world and human beings who are tied up with the real world. The points out that the power of belief which is implicit in love makes it possible to break through the indeterminate world where the existing knowledge does not work. Thus, the only suggests a venue for raising issues while it does not take it seriously. On the other hand, the largely depicts some conflicts caused by the superiority and inferiority relationship between the visual and real worlds. Moreover, it even eliminates the superiority of the real world by breaking up the boundary between the two worlds. In the inferior reality without any power to control the visual world, men are only allowed to feel jealousy. A research to compare novels and contents seems to be possible in two dimensions. One is the dimension of subject, and the other is the dimension of reasoning. Among them, the dimension of subject is more pragmatic. This must be the reason why there are many discussions in the dimension of subject. However, the subject of reasoning is as critical as the other. Particularly, classic novels are the results of aggregating premodern thoughts. The abundance of those thoughts is believed to make it possible to function as a thought experiment for future scientific technologies as discussed in the thesis. Therefore, it is required to more actively study the clues of reasoning offered by classic novels. Finally, it will be helpful not only for studying modern texts or contents, but also for the creation of new works.

기술 발전으로 가상이 극도로 생생해진다면 현실에서는 구현될 수 없었던 이상마저 구현이 가능해질지 모른다. 그런 점에서 이는 얼핏 장밋빛 미래에 대한 이야기처럼 들린다. <전우치전>에서 소년들은 주선랑의 아름다움을 자신들이 즐길 수 있을 거라 기대했기에 그림에 탄복한다. <알함브라>에서 진우도 이 생생한 게임을 자신의 사업 아이템으로 쓸 수 있기에 게임에 감탄한다. 즉, 가상의 발전에 대한 기대와 감탄은 어디까지나 가상이 현실에 의해 통제될 것이라는 믿음을 전제로 한다. 그러나 <전우치전>과 <알함브라>의 서사 전개가 보여주듯 우월한 가상은 현실과 현실에 긴박된 인간 자신마저 대체할 힘을 갖는다. <알함브라>와 <전우치전>은 이 문제를 서로 다른 방식으로 해결한다. <알함브라>에서는 사랑에 내재된 믿음의 힘이 기존의 앎이 통하지 않는 불확정적인 세계마저도 돌파하게 한다고 설파한다. 그러므로 <알함브라>에서는 문제를 제기할 장(場)은 만들었어도, 그것을 중점적으로 문제삼지는 않았다. 가상과 현실의 우열문제는 다른 문제들에 가려진 채 주변으로 밀려난다. 반면에 <전우치전>에서는 정반대로 가상과 현실의 우열관계가 초래하는 갈등을 전면화시킨다. 심지어 <전우치전>에서는 전우치가 민씨를 이무기로 만드는 환상적 사건을 조성함으로써 문제를 심화시킨다. 가상과 현실의 단순한 이분법이 무너지자 현실이 갖는 우월성은 기댈 곳이 없어져 버린다. 전우치는 민씨에게 질투하지 말 것을 폭력적으로 주문한다. 그러나 가상에 대한 통제력이 없는 열등한 현실의 인간이 가질 수 있는 것은 질투밖에 없다. 소설과 콘텐츠를 비교하는 연구는 두 가지 차원에서 가능하리라 생각된다. 하나는 소재의 차원이고 둘은 사유의 차원이다. 그중 소재의 차원은 보다 실제적이고 실용적이다. 많은 논의가 소재의 차원에서 이루어지고 있는 이유일 것이다. 그러나 소재의 차원 못지않게 사유의 차원도 중요하다. 특히 고전소설은 전근대의 사유를 집적한 결과이기도 하다. 그 사유의 풍요로움이 본 논의에서 펼쳐낸 바대로 미래상, 미래의 과학기술에 대한 사고실험으로도 기능할 수 있게 했다고 생각한다. 따라서 고전소설, 보다 넓게는 고전 서사가 제공하는 사유의 실마리를 앞으로도 더욱 적극적으로 연구할 필요가 있다. 그것이 콘텐츠나 스토리텔링을 연구하는 데에도, 나아가 창작하는 데에도 긍정적인 영향을 끼칠 수 있으리라 본다.
