This study examined the necessity of Korean history education as part of Korean culture education. The study selected Korean contemporary history as the contents of history education for Korean language learners by analyzing preceding studies and surveys. Teaching Korean contemporary history to foreign students can satisfy the significance and usefulness that is the principle of content selection of Korean culture education. It can also satisfy the content selection criteria mentioned in history education—whether the content is applicable to solving the present problem and whether the content is relevant to me. This paper selected 8 contents of contemporary history education that can be used in the form of special classes at universities or language schools, referring to the study of Korean history education and high school textbooks of modern and contemporary history. Studying Korean contemporary history will allow foreign learners to gain a deeper understanding of the current issues in Korean society and of the Korean people.

본 연구는 한국 문화 교육의 일환으로 한국사 교육의 필요성을 살피고 한 국 현대사를 중심으로 역사 교육 내용을 구성하였다. 한국 문화 교육에서 다뤄지는 내용은 다양한데 여러 학습자들이 필요하다고 느끼고 있는 역사 에 대한 교육은 많이 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 설문조사를 통해 외 국인 학습자들의 한국사 교육에 대한 생각을 살펴보았으며, 선행 연구와 설문 조사를 분석하여 외국인 학습자가 한국 사회를 이해하는 데 적합한 역사 교육 내용으로 현대사를 선정하였다. 한국어를 배우는 외국인들에게 한국 현대사를 가르치는 것은 한국 문화 교육 내용 선정 원리인 내용의 유 의미성과 유용성을 충족시켜 줄 수 있다. 또한 역사 교육에서 언급하고 있 는 내용 선정 기준인 현재의 문제를 해결하는 데 그 내용이 적용 가능한지 와 그 내용이 현재 나와 관련을 맺을 수 있는지에 대한 문제도 만족시켜 줄 수 있다. 본고에서는 국내 역사 교육 연구와 고등학교 근‧현대사 교과서를 참고하여 대학이나 어학원에서 특별 수업의 형식으로 활용할 수 있는 8차 시의 현대사 교육 내용을 선정하였다. 한국 현대사 교육을 통해 외국인 학 습자들은 현재 한국 사회의 문제들과 이에 대한 한국 사람의 생각 및 대응 방식을 더 깊이 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
