Recently, we have seen more and more Korean webtoon translated into Chinese language, which has resulted in an increased interest among the Chinese readers in Korean language and culture. Accordingly, there has been an increasing need to focus on the translation of onomatopoeic and mimetic words which take charge of visual and acoustic expressions in webtoon. If Korean webtoon is properly translated into foreign languages and overseas readers are able to understand them, webtoon can serve as one of the most ideal medium for sharing and sympathizing with each other’s culture. With Korean webtoon emerging as important parts of Korean culture wave, translation of Korean webtoon cannot be overemphasized. Against such a background, I have analyzed the Korean webtoon ‘Along with the Gods’ to study understanding of Korean webtoon from the perspective of Chinese readers. In the future, Korean webtoon translators need to be equipped not only with translation skill but also with much deeper interest and understanding in the overall field of webtoon. Translators should not only be able to work on lettering, which refers to adding visual flavors to letters, but also be able to directly insert and revise translated version into webtoon content.

모바일 기술의 발달로 웹툰은 이미 출판만화를 대 체하였다. 웹툰이 출판 만화보다 연재 주기가 짧고 점차 다양한 연령층이 웹툰을 보고 있으며 화면도 스 마트폰에 적합한 세로 스크롤 방식이라 편리하다. 스 마트 폰의 보편화로 웹툰의 독자가 앞으로 더욱 증가 하리라는 예측이다. 일러스트레이션의 형태로 구성된 웹툰에서 시각적 청각적 표현을 담당하는 의성어와 의태어의 역할은 매우 중요하다. 웹툰이 다른 장르에 비해 시각화 된 스토리가 전개되기에 의성어와 의태 어의 비중이 높고 이해와 수용이 용이하다. 문자 만 이 아닌 이미지가 함께 표현되기에 재미도 있다. 최 근 한국 웹툰이 외국어로 번역되면서 해외 독자들의 한국어 및 한국 문화에 대한 관심도 늘어나고 있다. 만약 해외 독자가 한국 웹툰을 보고 이해한다면 문화 공감의 매개로 이보다 더 좋은 건 없을 것이다. 새로 운 한류 콘텐츠로 부상하고 있는 한국 웹툰의 번역은 그만큼 중요하다고 하겠다. 이에 필자는 한국 웹툰의 중국 독자 수용성에 관해 살피고자‘신과 함께’라는 웹툰을 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 분석 결과 한국어에 비해 상대적으로 의성어와 의태어가 발달하지 않은 중국어는 의성어에서 음역으로, 의태어는 주로 의미 역으로의 번역 양상이 나타났다. 향후 웹툰 번역가는 번역 능력과 문화 이해도와 더불어 웹툰 작업에 대한 능력도 필요하고 문자를 시각화 하는 레터링 작업이 나 웹툰 콘텐츠에 직접 번역결과물을 삽입하고 수정 도 할 수 있어야 할 것이다.
