초록
영어
Recently, various artists from Korea have debuted in overseas art markets, while the interest they have in the Korean artists have also escalated. In order for Korean art to get proper recognition it deserves at the world stage and to pursue active communication, translating the contents is vital. However, with an appropriate art term dictionary nonexistent, and different translators using different words, the necessity arose to standardize Korean art terms in foreign languages. Accordingly, Ewha Womans University Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation collaborated with Korea Arts Management Center to conduct research commissioned by Center for Art Studies, Korea, to provide multi-lingual translation guidelines on Korean art terms, and thus produced recommendation for English, Chinese, and Japanese translation. The result of the first round of research is currently published on a website, an open-web based platform available for addition and revision. This article first gives the brief overview of the research, and then, with a specific focus on a Japanese translation guideline, takes a look at the background of the recommendation and details of the standardized guideline. And finally, it sheds light on the significance and future tasks of the research of standardizing multi-language dictionaries of Korean art terms.
