This study set out to examine the current state of and problems with Korean education institutions affiliated with graduate universities, whose number has made a noticeable increase recently, and propose their future tasks. Korean education, which began with missionaries in the 1950s, made rapid growth due to the rising recognition of South Korea after it hosted 1988 Summer Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup and also the influences of Korean Wave. Today Korean education focuses on its qualitative growth, following its quantitative expansion. Jumping on the bandwagon of Korean education institutions in recent years, Korean education institutions affiliated with graduate universities set their tuitions 40~50% cheaper than their counterparts affiliated with universities. A majority of their students have a goal of meeting the visa issuance conditions to get a job. The study thus investigated them to see whether they fulfilled their roles as Korean education institutions, took the diverse variables of learners into account in their curriculums and management, and lowered the quality of Korean education by setting cheap tuitions.

본 연구는 최근 현저하게 늘어나고 있는 대학원대학교 부설 한국어 교육기관의 현황 및 문제점을 살펴보고 앞으로의 과제를 제시하였다. 1950년대 선교사를 대상으로 가르치기 시작한 한국어 교육 은 1988 올림픽과 2002 월드컵을 개최하면서 한국에 대한 인지도의 상승과 한류의 영향으로 급성 장해 왔으며, 현재는 한국어 교육의 양적 팽창에 따른 질적 성장에 초점을 두고 있다. 하지만 최근 한국어 교육기관의 대열에 들어선 대학원대학교 부설 한국어 교육기관은 교육비가 대학 부설 한국 어 교육기관의 40~50% 저렴하게 받고 있으며, 학습자 다수가 학습 목적이 일자리 확보를 위한 비 자 발급 조건 충족을 위한 것이다. 따라서 대학원대학교 부설 한국어 교육기관이 한국어교육기관으 로서 제 역할을 다하고 있는지, 교육과정은 다양한 학습자의 변인을 고려하여 운영되고 있는지, 그 리고 저렴한 교육비는 한국어 교육의 질을 떨어뜨리지는 않는지에 대해 조사하였다.
