The purpose of this study is to examine the qualifications desired by the government and companies, the necessity of qualifications for employment perceived by unemployed youths, and difficulties during job search by exploring variables related to the job search requirements of the unemployed, thereby providing efficient information needed to prepare for job search. The data from the 9th (2015) to 11th (2017) years of Youth Panel (YP) were used (N=10206) for analysis among the Employment Survey of Korea Employment Information Service (KEIS), and the analysis results were as follows. First, lack of experience had the most significant impact on unemployed youths’ failure in job search. Second, when the study examined the ranks of efforts youths put in for employment, seeking advice from employment consulting firms had the highest rank while internship experiences showed a high priority from 2015. Third, the comparison of qualifications that unemployed youths built for employment and the qualifications needed for actual employment showed the following results. While youths were pursuing a master’s or doctor’s degree, studying for the Chinese Characters Proficiency Test, and participating in contests to gain qualifications for employment, job-related certificates, education, and standard English test scores were qualifications influencing their employment. Lastly, the difficulties that youths faced during job search were lack of various employment information as well as lack of experiences. This study is significant as it concluded that professional experiences, practical skills, and personal character are more important than indiscriminately acquiring a license or certificate and that it analyzed the variables that are substantially helpful for youths’ employment.

본 연구는 미취업 청년 구직과 관련된 변인들을 탐색함으로써, 미취업 청년들이 인식하고 있는 취업스펙과 정부 또는 기업이 원하는 스펙과 일치하는 지를 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 미취 업 청년들의 구직에 필요한 조건들을 살펴보고 그에 필요한 정보들을 제공하는데 연구의 목 적이 있다. 분석 자료는 한국고용정보원의 고용조사분석시스템에 공개된 자료 중, 청년패널조 사(YP)의 8차년도(2014)부터 10차년도(2016)까지 자료를 활용하였다(N=10206). 분석 결 과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 미취업 청년의 구직실패 우선순위를 알아본 결과, 경력부족이 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 청년들이 취업을 위해 노력한 순위를 살펴본 결과, 취업전문회사 자 문이 1순위로 나타났고 인턴경험은 2014년부터 높은 우선순위를 보였다. 셋째, 미취업 청년 들이 취업을 위해 준비한 스펙과 실제 취업에 필요한 스펙을 비교해 본 결과, 청년들이 준비 하고 있는 취업스펙은 주로 석·박사 학위, 한자능력, 공모전 경력 등으로 나타났으나, 실제로 취업에 영향을 미치는 스펙은 직무와 관련된 자격증, 학력, 공인영어성적 등으로 나타났다. 마 지막으로, 청년들이 체감하는 구직 시 어려운 점은 다양한 취업정보부족, 경력부족 등으로 나 타났다. 본 연구에서는 실제 취업현장에서 무분별하게 자격증을 취득하는 것 보다 실무 경험, 인성 등과 같은 능력들이 중요함을 도출하고 실질적으로 취업에 도움이 되는 변인들을 분석 하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.
