According to the “Study of Overseas Japanese Language Education Institutions”(2015 survey by the Japan Foundation), it was certain that the number of overseas institutions and the number of teachers who are providing Japanese language education are showing an overall increase. Specifically, the number of Japanese language education institutions around the world has increased by 133 institutions (+0.8%). However, compared to 2012, in Korea there was a decrease from, 2,862 institutions by 1,052 institutions (-26.9%). The number of teachers increased slightly by 303 (+0.5%) globally, while in Korea (from the year 2012), the number of teachers decreased by 2,962 (-16.6%) to 14,855 Meanwhile, the number of Japanese learners worldwide has decreased by 8.3% from the previous year, to 556,237, compared with 283,950 (-33.8%) in Korea (which is more than the global trend). In this paper, in order to promote the development of Japanese language education in Korea, the situation of Japanese language education in Korea will be examined in detail. The aim is to forecast the situation of Japanese language education in Korea.

일본국제교류기금의 ｢해외일본어교육기관조사｣(2015년도조사분)에 따르면, 일본어교육을 실시하고 있는 해외 교육기관의 수와 교사의 수는 전반적으로 증가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 전세계 일본어교육 기관수는 133기관(+0.8%)이 증가하였으나, 한국의 경우는 2,862기관으로 2012년 대비 1,052기관(-26.9%)이 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 교사수는 전세계적으로 303명(+0.5%) 소폭 증가한 반면, 한국에서는 14,855명으로 2012년도에 비해 2,962명(-16.6%)이 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 전세계 일본어학습자의 수는 556,237명으로 2012년도 대비 8.3 % 감소하였는데 반해 한국에서는 283,950명(-33.8%)이 줄어들어 세계적인 추세보다 더 큰 폭으로 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문에서는 한국의 일본어교육 발전을 도모하기 위하여 한국의 일본어교육 현황에 대해 교육단계별 일본어교육기관의 상황을 구체적으로 고찰하고, 한국의 일본어학습자수 및 일본어교육 전반에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하여 향후의 일본어교육을 전망하는 것을 목표로한다.
