This article aims at analyzing the supernatural sensitivity of Pharaon de winter(Emmanuel Schotté) in Bruno Dumont's Humanity(L'Humanité)(1999). For conceptual scheme concerning on ‘ethical gaze’, I indebted the essential concept of Adam Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments(1759): 'sympathy' and 'the impartial spectator'. It is then extended to Pier Polo Pasoloini’s film theory and practice such as ‘cinema of poetics’ and ‘free indirect discourse’ to discuss acting directing with non-professional actor. It is also included to visual cultural studies through discussion concerning not only comtemporary art but also the classic painting and the sculpture. During the process of investigating the murder case of 11-year-old girl who had been brutally raped in a small town ‘Bailleul’ in northern France, the detective Pharaon takes like the journey, which he appreciates the painting, architecture, science, technology, art, animals, plants, and murderers, and the dead by supernatural sympathetic imagnation. And then Pharaon as a holy fool poses the reflexive questions about humanity with the journey.

본 연구는 브루노 뒤몽의 프랑스 예술영화 <뤼마니테>(1999)에 나타난 주인공 파라옹 드 윈터의 초자연적 감성에 대해 인식론적 개념도식으로 고 찰한다. 브루노 뒤몽은 로베르 브레송의 미학을 계승하며 ‘신극단주의’ 영화 미학의 새로운 지평을 열었다고 평가받는 프랑스 감독이다. 본 연구에서 사 용되는 인식론적 개념도식 모델은 아담 스미스의 도덕철학에서 ‘공감’과 ‘중 립적 관망자’ 개념에 빚지고 있다. 인식론적 개념도식 모델을 영화적 담론으 로 논의하기 위해서 본 연구에서는 피에르 파올로 파졸리니의 ‘시적 영화’와 ‘자유간접화법’에서 비전문 배우와의 영화작업에 주목한다. 구체적으로 뒤몽 의 대표적 영화인 <뤼마니테>에서 자유간접화법을 통해 구성된 캐릭터의 감성을 통해서 그가 서사를 어떤 방식으로 이끌어 가는지 고찰한다. 그리고 분석 결과에 기반을 두고 뒤몽이 세상과 공감하는 초자연적 감성을 가진 캐 릭터를 어떻게 디자인하는지 다시 논의한다. 비전문 배우 엠마누엘 쇼테가 연기하는 파라옹은 프랑스 북부 플랑드르 지방에 위치한 소도시 바이왤의 형사이다. 파라옹은 11살 소녀가 살해된 사건을 조사하는 과정에서 초자연 적 감성, 즉 건축, 과학, 예술, 동물, 식물, 살인자, 죽은 자에게까지도 ‘마음 의 눈’, 즉 ‘상상의 눈’을 통해 공감을 시도하며 영화 제목처럼 인간성에 대 한 자기 성찰적 공감을 시도한다.
