This study deals with the relationship between Holy Spirit and Christian Education. To be a little more specific, it is a study on the role and the place of the Holy Spirit in relation to Christian Education. How can one teach and transform the lives of learners in this fast changing postmodern culture? What is the focal point of the works of the Holy Spirit? These kinds of questions were raised all throughout the process of writing. But a more serious question still remains. Is it true that we human teachers sow seeds, water and the rest belongs to the Holy Spirit? How is it possible to transform the lives of people in this self-centered, unteachable, and relative culture? Is it possible to form and transform people and help them to be more wholistic in forming of humanity? To throw a simple and definite answer, it is possible with the powerful works of the Holy Spirit. And it is possible when we ascribe all our efforts to the Holy Spirit through and through. According to Hess, educating in the Spirit means to acknowledge following three elements: liminality, security and openness. Holy Spirit is the starting point and the process and the end in pursuing a wholistic humanity in this postmodern culture. What do human teachers do then? They work together with the Spirit from the beginning to the end in the Spirit.

본 연구는 기독교교육과 성령의 관계를 다루었다. 더 자세히 말하면 성령이 기독교교육에서 차지하는 위치와 역할에 관한 것이다. 끊임없이 급변하는 포스트모던 문화가 학습자들을 도전하는 가운데 과연 기독교교육이 개인(들)을 온전한 인간성을 가진 사람으로 변화되게 도와줄 수 있을까? 기독교교육을 수행하는 가운데 성령이 하시는 일은 무엇인가? 어떠한 역할을 수행하는가?와 같은 질문을 갖고 이 연구가 진행되었다. 주크(해석학적 원리), 밀러(성령과 기독교교육의 위치 정립), 로더(관계적 성령이해), 헤스(성령의 경계성, 안전성, 개방성)와 같은 학자들이 다룬 성령과 기독교교육의 관계에 관한 연구와 포스트모던 문화가 오늘의 기독교교육에 주는 함의를 다룬 연구를 병행하여 이 시대에 적합한 기독교교육을 지향하는 성령에 대한 이해를 도모하였다. 그 결과 성령은 인간 교사가 자기 능력만큼 일하다가 더 이상 일할 수 없는 한계에 다다랐을 때부터 역사하는 분이 아니라 처음부터 끝까지 함께하시는 분임으로 교사는 처음부터 끝까지 성령 안에서 성령과 함께 가르침의 사역을 수행하여야 한다는 것이 이 연구의 핵심이다.
