The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative contribution of motivation for self-determination on cognitive strategies of preservice elementary teachers. Cognitive strategies were measured by 3 variables; surface(rehearsal), deep(elaboration and organization), and metacognitive(planning, monitoring, and regulating) strategies and motivation for self-determination was measured by 7 variables; intrinsic motivation(IM) to know, IM to accomplish, IM to experience stimulation, identified regulation, introjected regulation, external regulation, and amotivation. Results of canonical correlation analysis indicated that IM to accomplish positively and amotivation negatively contributed to deep and metacognitive strategies. Identified regulation positively contributed to surface cognitive strategy. Also, amotivation negatively and IM to accomplish positively contributed to elaboration, organization, and monitoring. IM to know, IM to accomplish, and IM to experience stimulation positively contributed to planning and identified regulation positively contributed to rehearsal.

본 연구에서는 예비 초등교사의 인지전략에 영향을 미치는 자기결정성 동기의 상대적인 기여도를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 동기를 자기결정성의 정도에 의해 세분화하려는 최근의 추세에 따라 지식추구 동기, 지적성취 동기, 지적자극추구 동기, 동일체 동기, 내적강요 동기, 외적강요 동기, 무동기의 일곱 유형으로 세분화하여 표층적, 심층적, 상위인지전략에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 본 연구에서는 독립변인군과 종속변인군 간의 종합적인 상관관계를 알아보는 정준상관분석을 이용하여 자기결정성 동기의 각 유형들이 표층적, 심층적, 상위인지전략 및 인지전략의 하위요소를 설명해주는 정도와 그 내용을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 예비 초등교사들은 지적성취 동기가 더 높고 무동기가 더 낮을수록 심층적 인지전략과 상위인지 전략을 더 자주 사용하며, 동일체 동기가 더 높을수록 표층적 인지전략을 더 자주 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 무동기가 더 낮고 지적성취 동기가 더 높을수록 정교화, 조직화, 점검을 더 자주 사용하며 지식추구, 지적자극추구, 지적성취 동기가 더 높을수록 계획을 더 자주 사용하고, 동일체 동기가 더 높을수록 시연을 더 자주 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 자기결정성 동기를 세분화하려는 이론적 개념화를 지지할 뿐만 아니라 초등교사의 개인적, 심리적 변인들을 더 잘 이해하기 위한 기초적인 자료를 제공하여 효율적인 예비교사 교육과정을 위해 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.
