The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlational validity between reading competency and the Lexile system in elementary school students' English reading. To do this, the research examines 3rd - 6th grade students in Busan by adapting the DIBELS Next(The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) program, which is designed to be short fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills. The results are as follows; DIBELS reading composite score, and accuracy have strong positive correlations with the Lexile index system. However, the result shows that there’s no positive correlation between NWF(Nonsense Word Fluency), WC(Word Correct) retelling in DORF(DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency), retelling and Lexile index system. Based on the findings, the research suggests how to effectively improve English reading efficacy in terms of application of the Lexile system in Korea. The educational implications were discussed in the context of the educational policy making process and reading environment for Korean elementary school students.
