This article is focusing on the curriculum of moral education in secondary school of South Korea. There are many problems at the curriculum in secondary school, but my focus is the object and the theoritical ground of moral education in secondary school. The object of moral education is a cultivation of human character and that object is to be focused on the curriculum of moral education. And the theoritical ground of moral education is ethics. An emphasis on the ethical ground of moral education is to be captured by universal values and special situation of South Korea. We are to be focusing on the grades of moral development of secondary school students, and to be differentied at the secondary and the high grade secondary school. The examples of subjects of moral education at the high grade secondary school are ‘The Ethical Thought’, ‘Practical Ethics’, and ‘Values and Thought’.

우리의 도덕과 교육은 교육과정 개정 움직임과 관련지어 다양한 쟁점을 제시해 놓고 있다. 이러한 쟁점들에 대한 논의를 전개하는 일은 한편으로 도덕과 교육의 이론적 지평을 넓히는 일이기도 하지만, 다른 한편으로는 도덕과의 현실을 직시할 수 있게 해주는 실천적 지평과 맞닿아 있기도 하다. 현재 부각되고 있는 쟁점들은 도덕교육의 지향점을 ‘보편윤리’로 할 것인지, 아니면 ‘한국인의 윤리’로 할 것인지와 관련된 목표상의 쟁점과 학문적 배경을 둘러싼 논쟁, 그리고 도덕과 교육의 실효성을 묻는 실천적 논쟁들이다. 이러한 논쟁들에서 논자가 서 있는 지점은 보편윤리를 지향하지 않는 도덕교육적 논의는 성립될 수 없고 그런 점에서 도덕교육의 학문적 배경은 윤리학 중심일 수밖에 없으며, 도덕과 교육의 실효성을 확보할 수 있는 다양한 실천적 대안들이 모색되어야 한다는 것이다. 보다 구체적으로는 도덕교육의 목표를 재정립하는 바탕 위에서 중, 고등학교 사이의 차별성을 확보하고 선택과목을 전환하여 수능시험과의 연계성을 담보하는 방향으로 개정이 이루어져야 한다.
