A statistical rating system developed on the basis of Dr. Elo’s theory has been implemented as the official rating system of the Korea Baduk Association since January 2009. It seems a good time to review how the rating system was developed and how it has been performed, because it has been used for about seven years. In this paper, I discuss how I chose the value of k factor through numerical simulations, and I demonstrate that the actual winning rate as a function of rating point difference fits very well to the theoretical winning expectancy function. On the other hand, rating records of the U.S. Chess Federation and the European Go Federation do not fit very well to the theoretical winning expectancy function.

한국기원은 Elo 박사의 이론에 근거한 통계적 랭킹제도를 2009년 1월부터 공식 랭킹제도로 사용해왔다. 이제 새 공식 랭킹제도를 사용한지 만 7년이 되어가므로 이 랭킹제도의 개발 과정 과 운용 실태를 논할 필요가 있다. 이 논문에서는 일로제도의 점수 수정 공식의 비례상수 k의 값을 수리적 모의시험을 통해서 현실에 맞게 선택한 과정을 설명한다. 그리고 그 동안 계산된 한국기원 기사들의 공식 랭킹 점수들이 이론적 승률기대치 함수에 잘 부합하는 것을 보여준다. 이에 비해서 미국체스연맹 및 유럽바둑연맹 회원들의 랭킹 점수들이 이론에 잘 부합하지 않는 원인을 살펴본다.
