Korean music has many genres that hold integrative nature. Among various genres, the Korean traditional mask performance can be regarded as “integrated” since it involves singing, dancing, instrumental performance, and play. Due to this property, research on the integrated education of the Korean traditional mask performance has been actively done. However, in real practice, typically at schools, the cases of the integrated education of Korean traditional mask performance are rare. The study explored integration teaching methods and convergence teaching methods of Korean traditional mask performance for development of creative and convergent thinking which meet the national policy “Korean STEAM education.” First, this study investigated 13 Korean traditional mask performances designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property to find common components of those. Next, it examined the teaching contents involved Korean traditional mask performance in elementary textbooks. Based on these investigations, this study developed integration instructional model of Korean traditional mask performance and looked for a way to teach Korean traditional mask performance as blending with others. Korean traditional mask performance includes dance elements such as the mask dancing, theatrical elements such as jokes and dialogues, musical elements such as singing, playing instruments, musical instruments, music and formative elements such as masks and furnishings. It also includes historical, cultural and ideological elements. As a result of reviewing elementary textbooks, Korean traditional mask performance has been taught in Korean, society, gym, music, art, and others. This is an indication that we can teach Korean traditional mask performance with multiple integration courses. This study was developed integration teaching contents and common integrated instructional model of Korean traditional mask performance based on such considerations. This study included creative thinking activity into integration teaching contents, developed instructional model which can be applied to all Korean traditional mask performance, and made a specific teaching plans focusing on ‘Bongsan Mask Dance'. Integration is simply combining related items, but fusion is creating something new out of the combination of given items. In this study, the author searched for convergence teaching methods using the Korean traditional mask performance. There are how to fuse other genres, how to fuse other art and culture, how to fuse other studies such as science and technology in the convergence teaching methods. In addition, this study presented specific teaching cases for development of creative and convergent thinking. For these reasons, this study concludes that the Korean traditional mask performance is a suitable subject for integrated and convergent education.

국악에는 종합적․총체적 특성을 가진 장르들이 많다. 그 중에서 탈놀이는 가(歌), 무(舞), 악(樂), 희(戲), 극(劇) 등이 포함되어 있어 특히 통합적 또는 융합적이라 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 탈놀이의 통합적․총체적 특성으로 인해 교육에서는 탈놀이를 활용한 통합 지도 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 하지만 아쉽게도 학교 현장에서는 탈놀이를 통합적으로 지도하는 실질적인 사례가 드물고 이에 대한 인식도 여전히 부족하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 창의․융합 인재 육성이라는 교육 정책에 맞추어 창의․융합적 사고를 함양하는 탈놀이의 통합 및 융합 지도 방안을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 중요무형문화재로 지정된 13가지 탈놀이의 내용을 조사하여 탈놀이의 통합적 구성 요소를 고찰하고 현행 교과서에 제시된 탈놀이 관련 지도 내용을 고찰하였으며 이를 근거로 탈놀이의 통합 수업 모형을 개발하였다. 그리고 선정한 통합 지도 내용과 통합 수업 모형을 바탕으로 창의․융합적 사고를 함양하는 탈놀이의 통합 및 융합 지도 방안을 마련하였다. 탈놀이는 탈춤이라는 무용적 요소, 재담과 대사라는 연극적 요소, 여러 장르의 노래와 반주음악, 악기연주, 악기 등의 음악적 요소, 탈과 소품 등의 조형적 요소뿐만 아니라 이야기에 담긴 사상과 유래, 민속 문화적 가치 등 역사적․문화적․사상적 요소를 포함하고 있다. 초등학교 교과서에 제시된 탈놀이 관련 내용을 고찰한 결과, 탈놀이는 국어, 사회, 체육, 음악, 미술 교과 등에서 다루고 있었다. 이러한 고찰을 바탕으로 탈놀이의 통합 지도 내용 선정과 통합 수업 모형을 개발할 수 있었다. 탈놀이의 통합 지도 내용은 탈놀이에 포함된 구성 요소를 지도할 수 있도록 선정하였고 더불어 창의적 사고를 함양할 수 있도록 다양한 창의 활동을 제공하였다. 그리고 모든 탈놀이에 적용할 수 있는 일반적인 통합 수업 모형을 개발하여 봉산탈춤을 대상으로 한 구체적인 지도 계획도 세워보았다. 통합은 관련된 것을 단순히 합치는 것이지만 융합은 합쳐서 새롭게 바꾸는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 탈놀이의 통합 지도 방안 뿐 아니라 융합 지도 방안도 모색하였다. 탈놀이의 융합 지도 방안으로 국악의 다른 장르와 융합하는 방법, 국악이외의 문화 예술과 융합하는 방법, 기존 탈놀이에 전혀 포함되지 않은 다른 교과나 학문 예컨대 과학․기술 등과 융합하는 방법 등을 제시하였다. 이러한 융합 지도 방안을 가지고 창의․융합적 사고를 함양하기 위한 구체적인 융합 지도 사례를 몇 가지 제안하였으며 그 결과 탈놀이는 통합 및 융합 지도하기에 매우 적합한 소재임을 알 수 있었다.
