The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of film use in speech education on attitudes toward the lecture and learners' speech skills. Also, we examined whether these effects differ by the composition of the film (narrative vs. non-narrative structure) used in the education materials. The study used a three group experimental design, in which participants were assigned to three different conditions: (1) lecture without film, (2) lecture with narrative film, and (3) lecture with non-narrative film. The results showed that the lecture with film (both narrative and non-narrative) conditions resulted in more positive attitudes and higher speech ability compared to the lecture with no film condition. The results confirm the positive effect of film use in speech education. However, there were no significant differences between the lecture with narrative film and the lecture with non-narrative film condition. Given that the effectiveness of film use on speech education has rarely been examined in previous research, this study not only contributes to research on speech education, but also has important practical implications for designing effective speech education materials.

본 연구는 스피치 교육에서의 영화 활용이 학습자들의 스피치 교육 강의에 대한 태도및 스피치 능력 함양에 미치는 효과를 실험을 통해 확인해보고자 하였다. 나아가 교육에활용하는 영화의 구성 방식(내러티브 vs. 비(非) 내러티브)에 따라 그 효과가 다르게 나타나는가를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 실험 대상자를 (1) 영화를 활용하지 않는 집단, (2) 내러티브 영화 활용 집단, (3) 비(非) 내러티브 영화 활용 집단으로 구분하여 각 조건에 따른학습자들의 강의에 대한 태도와 스피치 능력의 차이를 확인하였다. 그 결과 스피치 교육시 영화를 활용한 집단의 학습자들이 영화를 활용하지 않고 일반 강의만 진행한 집단에비해 강의에 대한 태도가 긍정적이고 스피치 능력이 높게 나타나 영화 활용의 긍정적효과가 확인되었다. 하지만 영화 구성 유형(내러티브 vs. 비(非) 내러티브)에 따른 차이는유의하게 나타나지 않았다. 국내 스피치 교육 연구에서 영화 활용의 효과가 거의 다루어지지 않았다는 점에서 본 연구 결과는 스피치 교육 관련 연구의 발전에 기여함과 동시에, 스피치 수업에 대한 학습자들의 흥미를 높이고 나아가 스피치 능력을 함양시킬 수 있는효과적인 스피치 교육안 개발에 실무적 유용성을 제공한다.
