The purpose of this paper was to investigate the introduction of “schema” conception and its expanding process in the intervention of emotional difficulties, due to so called “cognitive revolution” in the psychology. A. Beck was the first character who had introduced the term schema for the treatment of emotional disorders. He defined the schema as a structure for selecting, coding, and evaluating the stimuli that affect organic matter, and thereby a mode of classifying environments and organizing many of psychological aspects related to them. He have suggested that individuals are able to meaningfully categorize and interpret their own experiences based on their schema. However, some critics pointed out that early cognitive model are difficult to work on in the treatment of people with severe emotional problems, such as personality disorder, and have proposed various new models that modified Beck's model. More currently, some therapists have tended to use the term “emotional schema” address the emotional problem directly. In this paper, the researcher have tried to suggest an integrated model of schema-focused approach to the treatment of those with emotional difficulties.

전통적으로 정서의 문제는 심리적 문제 해결을 위한 상담의 핵심 주제로 인식되어 왔다. 심리학은 두 차례에 걸친 인지혁명을 통해 과학적 패러다임의 전환을 이룩하였으며(Harre, 1994), 그에 따라 심리적 문제 해결을 위한 상담의 패러다임도 계속 진화해 왔다. 컴퓨터 유추에 의해 촉발된 “일차 인지혁명”의 결과로 심리학은 마음을 하나의 정신 기계로 간주하고 쉽게 관찰되지 않는 정신 과정을 서술하는 가설-연역적 이론을 창안하고 검증하는 학문으로 진화하였으며, 많은 상담자들은 Beck의 도식 개념에 기초하여 사건을 해석하는 핵심 신념 또는 도식을 점검하여 변화시키는 일이 정서 문제 해결을 위한 핵심 전략이라고 강조하였다. 그러나 “이차 인지혁명”과 함께 촉발된 심리학의 담론적 전환(discursive turn)은 과학적 심리학에 도달하고자 하는 오랜 여정에서 정서와 같은 심리적 현상에 대한 체계적이고 급진적인 재평가를 초래하였다. 더욱이 이러한 움직임이 소위 정서혁명 혹은 정동혁명으로 이어지면서 정서의 문제가 심리학의 핵심 주제로 등장하고 상담자들 사이에서 내담자의 정서 문제를 직접적으로 다루려는 시도들이 증가하고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 상담자들이 내담자의 정서 문제에 개입하는 과정에서 도식을 이해하고 적용하는 방식을 체계적으로 검토하여 정서 개입을 위한 도식 활용의 통합 모형을 정립하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 연구자는 먼저 상담 분야에서 정서 문제의 개입을 위해 도입된 도식의 개념적 진화 과정을 고찰하고, 그러한 개념에 기초해 개발된 주요 상담 접근을 체계적으로 분석하며, 이를 토대로 정서 개입에서 도식 기반 접근의 통합 가능성과 초등학교 교육에 주는 시사점을 논의한다.
