One’s speech capability plays a pivotal role in building social relationships with others and is an important factor influencing the evaluation of his social skills. Rather than a gift by nature, one’s speech capability can enhanced by practical education, practices, exercises. The current research investigated if speech education is able to change one’s neurosis, extroversion, intellectual openness, friendliness, and self-esteem. In addition, the current research effort examined how the development of one’s speech capability. which consists of a visual, substantial, and phonetic element, is connected t his anxiety about making a speech in front of an audience. With 30 cadets taking a speech course at Korea Army Academy, the current research conducted an experimental study over 8 weeks. First, the results of this study show that speech education exerts a significant influence on one’s intellectual openness as a personal trait. Second, the results indicate that speech education is able to significantly enhance a visual, substantial, and phonetic element in one’s speech capability. Third, the results reveal that speech education lowered the participants’ anxiety about making a speech in a significant way.

본 연구에서는 스피치 교육이 개인의 성격특성인 신경증, 외향성, 지적개방성, 친화성과 자아존중감이라는 특성의 변화에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다, 또 스피치 능력(시각적 요소, 내용적 요소, 음성적 요소) 변화와 발표불안감 변화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보았다. 육군3사관학교에서 스피치 교육을 받고 있는 사관생도 30명을 대상으로 8주에 걸친 실험연구를 실시하여, 스피치 교육의 효과를 알아본 결과, 첫째, 스피치 교육이 개인적 성격특성(외향성, 신경증, 친화성, 개방성, 자아존중감) 변화에서 개방성에서만 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 둘째, 스피치 교육이 스피치 능력 변인중 시각적 요소, 음성적 요소, 내용적 요소에서 모두 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 끝으로, 스피치 교육이 발표불안감 변화에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 발표불안감의 감소에 영향을 미쳤다.
