The purpose of this study was to understand the meanings of a learning club in lifelong learning through the analysis of the learning club called 'Study.' For this purpose, the following questions were set: First, how is a photography learning club maintained? Second, what is the driving force of a photography learning club? Third, how does a photography learning club affect the participants' lives? To answer these questions, an 'ethnographic study,' which involved such specific techniques as participatory observation, interview, and data analysis, was used. Twelve members of a photography learning club, 'Study,' in Jinju participated in this study. As a member of 'Study,' I started implicit observation through the learning club activities in January 2013 and made full-fledged observation by keeping a field observation journal with the approval of the other members for four months from February to May 2015. From this ethnographic study on the experiences of a photography learning club, the following conclusion was drawn: First, 'Study,' a learning club based on photography, was spontaneously formed and operated and had a goal-oriented characteristic for positive learning activities with both theoretical and practical learning. Although anyone could freely join and withdraw from the club, which had no fixed rule, there was implicit group culture with a fixed learning procedure and growth pattern even in the absence of form. Second, the learning club produced group dynamics due to learners' attitude, the process of learning activities, and the leader's capability and the group dynamics may act as a driving force of evolving a learning club. The participants in the learning club could continuously participate when they had positive attitude toward learning and were equipped with community morality and conflict factors caused by the gap in ability among them may become dynamic factors that can contribute to growth of the club. Third, the members of 'Study' became aware of ego at the transitional stage in the life cycle and started learning activity to make a new challenge; in such a process, they felt encouraged and happy and came to encounter their true image.

이 연구는 ‘스터디’라는 학습동아리의 분석을 통해 평생학습에 있어 학습동아리의 의미를 알아보고 자 하였다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫째, 사진학습동아리는 어떻게 진행되는가? 둘째, 사진학습동아리를 이끄는 원동력은 무엇인가? 셋째, 사진학습동아리는 참여자들의 삶에 어떤 영**향을 미치는가? 위의 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 ‘문화기술적 연구방법’을 사용하였고 구체적인 기법으로 참여관 찰, 면담 및 자료 분석을 사용하였다. 연구대상은 진주지역에 있는 사진학습동아리 스터디 회원 12명 이다. 연구자는 스터디 회원의 일원으로, 2013년 1월부터 학습동아리 활동을 통해 암묵적 관찰이 시 작되었으며, 2015년 2월부터 2015년 5월까지 4개월간은 회원들의 동의를 얻어 현장관찰일지를 작성 하면서 본격적인 관찰이 이루어졌다. 이 연구는 사진학습동아리 경험에 대한 문화기술적 연구로 다음과 같은 결론은 내리고자 한다. 첫 째, 사진을 매개로 하는 학습동아리 스터디는 자발적으로 결성되어 운영되고 있었고, 이론과 실기를 병행하며 활발한 학습활동을 하는 목표지향적 성격을 띄고 있다. 가입과 탈퇴가 자유롭고 정해진 규 칙은 따로 없지만, 암묵적인 집단문화가 형성되어 무형식속에서도 일정한 학습적 절차와 성장패턴을 형성하고 있었다. 둘째, 학습동아리는 학습자의 태도와 학습활동의 과정과 지도자의 역량으로 인해 집단역동을 가져왔으며, 이러한 집단역동은 학습동아리가 진화하는 원동력으로 작용한다. 학습동아리 참여자는 학습에 대한 적극적인 태도를 갖추고 공동체적 도덕성을 지녔을 때 지속적으로 참여가 가 능하였다. 셋째, 스터디 회원들은 인생주기의 전이적 단계에서 자아를 인식하고 새로운 도전을 위해 학습활동을 시작하게 되고, 그러한 과정에서 보람과 행복을 느끼며 진정한 자신의 모습을 만나게 되 었다.
