A discussion about the just society is hotly debated in Korea. But the answers to the question where should we start to realize the just society are very diverse, therefore the direction for practice of just society is also too vague. A concept of justice or just society can have various interpretations and opinions, but in this article I try to take note of expected virtues for a just society in particular. As a way to approach to this question the characters and dramatic situation of two dramas were aired on KBS and SBS are analyzed. Two dramas depend on the story about 'Gumiho(legendary fox with nine tails)'. They have different form and plot, but they keep the basic framework of Gumiho's longing to become human. These two Gumihos are on the one hand unduly oppressed and wrongly killed by human and show on the other a desirable human character and virtue that is important and necessary for practice of just society. These two dramas reflect our social reality all is interpreted by logic of market economy and humans are becoming commoditized and lose morality, ethics and responsibility for the whole community and mankind. They suggest also indirect through the surreal character and situation an alternative for a just society. The two Gumiho dramas tell us we have moral obligation and responsibility that don't be selected by ourselves, moreover, it is possible to realize the just society and a living worthy of human dignity, when we are faithful to our moral and ethical duties and responsibility.

현재 한국사회는 ‘공정사회’, ‘정의로운 사회’에 대한 논의로 뜨겁게 달 궈져 있다. 그러나 ‘공정사회의 실현은 어디서부터 시작되는가?’라는 질문 에 대한 답은 다양한 정치적·철학적 견해가 존재하는 만큼 다양하게 존재 하며, 그로 인해 ‘공정사회’를 구현하기 위한 실천적 방향 또한 모호하기 만 한 것이 현실이기도 하다. 필자는 다양한 해석과 주장이 가능한 ‘정의’라는 개념과 관련하여, 샌델 이 주목하고 있는 ‘공정사회 구현에 있어 필요한 미덕’질문에 주목하고자 한다. 그리고 이러한 문제제기에 접근하는 하나의 방법으로서 근자에 방 영된 여러 드라마들 중 2010년 여름에 방영된 KBS 제2방송의 ‘구미호 여우누이뎐’ 과 SBS의 ‘내 여자 친구는 구미호’ 에서 재현되는 다양한 캐 릭터들과 그들의 드라마내적 상황의 분석을 통해 접근해 보고자 한다. 우리나라의 공포물들은 ‘공포의 생산’을 위한 호러 장르의 공통적 특징 외에도 일반적으로 억울하게 죽은 한 맺힌 영혼이 복수극을 벌인다는 원 귀 이야기에 의존하고 있다는 특성을 가진다. 여기서 ‘한 맺힌 영혼의 복수극’이라는 한국 공포물들의 공통적 특성은 앞서 들어가는 말에서 언급했던 ‘도덕적 주장이 들어 있는 분노’와 상통하 는 부분이 있다. 다시 말해 공포 생산의 주체인 ‘귀신’이나 ‘구미호’라는 존재들이 자신을 드러내는 데에는, ‘부당함’에 분노하고, 고발하려는 의지 가 작용하고 있으며, 그 ‘부당함’에 대한 판단기준에 ‘인간다움의 상실, 미 덕의 상실’이 핵심적인 요소를 차지하고 있다. 고전극 형식에 기초한 ‘구미호 여우누이뎐’과 시대를 현대로 옮겨 신세 대들의 취향에 맞도록 구성한 ‘내 여자 친구는 구미호’는 각기 서로 다른 형식과 구성을 가지고 있지만, 인간이 되고자 하는 열망을 가진 구미호가 인간들과 섞여 살면서 겪어야 하는 부당하고 억울한 이야기라는 기본 틀 을 유지하면서 각각 독특한 구미호 캐릭터를 첨가하였다. 이 두 드라마는 한편으로는 오늘의 우리가 어떤 사회에 살고 있는지를 비춰주는 거울이기도 하며, 다른 한편으로는 이상적인 사회, 이상적인 인 간상이란 어떠해야 하는지를 간접적으로 제시해주는 전망의 역할을 하고 있기도 하다. 모든 것이 시장경제의 논리로만 해석되어 그 시장을 이끄는 인간마저 스스로를 상품화시키고자 애쓰는 우리 사회의 단면을 이 드라마 들은 잘 보여주고 있으며, 더불어 인간이란 어떤 존재이며, 어떤 존재이어 야 하는지에 대한 답 또한 구미호들을 통해 보여주고 있다. 드라마에 등장하는 구미호와 그들을 사랑한 등장인물들은 우리에게 ‘좋 은 삶’의 의미가 무엇인지를 고민하게 이끈다. 또한 우화적이고 상징적인 표현에 그치고 있긴 하지만, 그들의 모습 속에는 우리가 우리의 자유로 선택하지 않은 도덕적 의무와 책임 또한 있으며, 그 의무와 책임에 충실 할 때에만 ‘인간다운’ 삶과 ‘정의로운 사회 구현’이 가능하다는 사실을 잘 보여주고 있다고 하겠다.
