This study was intended to investigate the differences of cell phone using behavior based on perceived parental rearing attitudes and quality of peer relationship, and the effects of the perceived parental rearing attitudes and quality of peer relationship on primary school students’ cell phone using behavior. Four hundred eighty nine sixth grade male and female students participated in this study. The results of the study are followed: First, there were no difference in cell phone dependency. However, there was significant difference in cell phone using degree in love-hostility dimension and autonomy-control dimension. Second, there was significant difference on cell phone using behavior based on quality of peer relationship. As conflict-resistance dimension was higher, daily cell phone usage time was longer, and socio-emotional support and satisfaction of peer relationship were higher, usage of text messages and phone calls were more. Third, regression analysis showed socio-emotional support factor of quality of peer relationship effects on cell phone dependency, and satisfaction of peer relationship effects on daily amount of text messages. These results suggest supervising the way to use cell phone in right ways not just limiting the amount of cell phone usage of primary school students.

본 연구는 부모양육태도 및 또래관계의 질에 따라 휴대폰 사용행동에 어떤 차이가 있으며, 부모양육태도와 또래관계의 질이 초등학생의 휴대폰 사용행동에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 울산의 4개 지역에서 휴대폰을 소지한 6학년 남녀 초등학생 489명을 대상으로 설문지 조사를 실시하였는데, 또래관계의 질과 부모양육태도 휴대폰 이용 정도 및 휴대폰 의존성에 관하여 측정하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 부모양육태도 하위요인인 애정-적대 차원과 자율-통제 차원에서 각 집단간 휴대폰 의존성에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었으나, 또래관계의 질에 따라 휴대폰 사용행동에서 유의미 한 차이가 나타났다. 또래관계의 질 하위요인인 갈등 및 대립수준이 높을수록, 사회정서적 지지가 많을수록, 그리고 또래 관계 만족이 높을수록 휴대폰 의존성이 높게 나타났다. 부모양육 태도가 자율적일수록, 또래관계의 질이 만족스러울수록 초등학생의 휴대폰 사용은 내용적 측면에서 바람직한 사용행동을 볼 수 있으므로 아동의 휴대폰 사용을 양적으로 제한하 기보다 사용행동의 질적 측면을 지도하는 방향으로 나아가야 함을 시사한다.
