A major goal of the present study is to review the research of English education for young children. Analyses were conducted on 257 domestic master and doctoral dissertations, and on 56 journal articles published between 2006 and 2015 in Korea. The academic area of the author of the research was identified, and the major themes of the research were classified. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, English education for young children was conducted in the field of early childhood education, English education, IT, and design. Secondly, the most frequently studied theme is teaching strategies, which is followed by the current situations of English education, English teachers, digital contents, curriculum improvement, the effects of English educations, children’s English acquisitions, and text analyses. The theme of learning strategies and digital contents are investigated more in the field of English education, while the theme of English teacher and the current situations of English education are studied more in early childhood education.

본 연구는 유아영어교육에 관한 최근 연구들의 동향을 알아보기 위해서 2006년부터 2015년 사이에 국내에서 발표된 유아영어교육연구들의 내용을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 학술연구정보서비스에서 ‘유아영어’라는 주제어로 검색하여 선정된 국내학술지 연구 56편과 학위논문 257편을 분석대상으로 하였다. 연구들의 전공분야와 연구주제를 확인하였으며, 각 주제별로 연구내용을 종합하였다. 학위논문은 유아교육분야(유아교육, 아동학, 교육학 등)에서 97편, 영어교육분야(조기·어린이영어교육, 초등영어교육, 영어교육, 응용언어 등)에서 145편, 그리고 기타분야(디자인, 정보통신, 미디어 등)에서 15편이 있었다. 학술지연구는 유아교육분야에 37편, 영어교육분야에 9편, 그리고 기타분야에 10편 있었다. 가장 많은 연구가 이루어진 주제는 교수학습방법이었고, 다음으로 실태와 인식, 교사, 디지털교수매체, 교육과정개선, 영어교육효과, 영어습득과 관련변인, 교재분석의 순으로 이루어졌다. 2005년 이전에 이루어진 연구들에 비해서 유아영어교육실태 조사연구나 유아영어교육의 타당성을 알아보기 위한 연구들은 줄어들었으며, 교수학습방법이나 교육과정개선, 유아영어교사와 같이 구체적인 프로그램 구성에 관한 연구들이 증가하였다. 또한 유아영어교육을 위한 에듀테인먼트 디지털 콘텐츠 개발에 관한 연구들이 급증하였다. 유아영어교육이 누리과정에는 포함되어 있지만 방과후 프로그램의 하나로 자리잡은만큼, 유아들에게 적합하며, 교육적 효과가 있는 프로그램 구성과 운영을 위해서 유아교육, 영어교육, 그리고 정보통신이나 디자인 등의 분야 전문가들이 협업이 필요하다.
