초록

영어

This study focuses on changes in terms and examines the initial discourse as part of an investigation of new media and technology in Korean fine art. We note the contemporary perception of new art forms and changes in the social media environment. In order to consider related terms as an indicator of perception, the artistic debate and direction of the search for artists are also studied with regard to new media and technology. This study starts its exploration in the 1960s, with the inflow of information related to the works of machine art and video in the West, the discourse on electronic arts, and the impact of experimental art. Korean artists who took advantage of video as a form and a tool with which to express their 'weltanschauung' concerning fine art initially appeared in the late 1970s. In 1984, "Good Morning Mr. Orwell," by Paik Nam-June, aired on TV as a form of video art only known by a few experts initially, becoming nonetheless widely known eventually to the general public. In addition, the utilization of experimental discourse and technology to attempt to use computers in regional was also announced at the time. After the mid-1980s, Korean media art began its full-fledged expansion. In this study, the era background and unique Korean phenomena of such discourses are discussed. In the 1990s, technology art was popularly used as a term to express a variety of art work that utilized the latest forms of media and technology. In those days, "Science Plus Art" was not only a core language, referring to a new art paradigm that appeared to explore the diffusion of technology art, but was also a major form of discourse on this new study. The term “media art” accepted new media in the area of visual arts at the center of mainstream museums and institutions and emerged as a term used to navigate this new media. In this study, we derive a representative term for the various contemporary expressions that appeared to have been established before the term “media arts” and broaden our understanding of the formation process of the current cultural terrain of media and technology.
