This paper aims to review the previous literature on nominative case markers of Middle Korean and Modern Korean, and to suggest directions on this matter for the future studies. The markers dealt with are：nominatives I(이) and ka(가), inflection forms of existential verbs isye(이셔), kyesye(겨셔), kyeopsye(겨ᄋᆞᆸ셔) and kyewosye(겨오셔), and ablatives eysye(에셔), uykeysye(의게셔), and skuysye(ᄭᅴ셔). The paper focuses mainly on etymologies of them, including their origins and the historical paths. Some of them are not neglectable despite little attention has been paid to：i could have been developed from Ancient Korean genitive *i; ka, could have been loaned from Japanese nominative ga; and skuysye might have been formed by blending kyesye, kyeopsye etc. and skuysye.

본고는 중세․근대국어의 주격조사 및 주어를 표시하는 의존요소를 다룬 기존의 연구들을 살펴 쟁점별로 그 성과를 정리하고 앞으로의 방향에 대해 논하고자 한 것이다. 본고에서 다루는 주어표지에는 주격조사 ‘이’와 ‘가’, 존재동사의 활용형 “이셔”, “겨셔”, “겨오셔”, “겨ᄋᆞᆸ셔”, 탈격의 “에셔”, “의게셔”, “ᄭᅴ셔” 등이 포함된다. 선행연구들에는 이들의 기원과 형성과정을 논한 것이 많았고, 이에 따라 본고에서도 주어표지들의 기원과 형성과정이 논의의 중심에 놓여 있다. 공시적 연구는 상대적으로 적은 편으로 이들은 대개 이형태와 그 교체 조건을 다룬 초기의 연구들이다. 한편, 최근에는 인접 언어들이나 동계의 다른 언어들을 참고하거나 인간의 보편적 인지 능력으로부터 언어 변화의 동기를 설명하는 방법론을 활용한 연구가 늘고 있다.
