Internet Addiction according to the Anxiety Level of the Elementary School Students

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the anxiety and internet addiction levels of elementary school students, verify the relationship between these two, and provide base material for the development of a prediction program for anxiety and internet addiction. Methods: Data was collected using self-report surveys conducted on 182 elementary students from April 10, 2016 to May 10, 2016 statistics were analyzed using SPSS Version 23.0 (SAIC) by Cho and Choi (1989) who changed Spielberger's Anxiety Inventory for Adults so children could easily understand, and 9 questions for general characteristics, totaling 69 questions. Results: Internet addiction levels were surveyed through the general user group. With anxiety levels according to general characteristics, anxiety levels were high according to grade and internet use time showing significant differences and with internet addiction levels according to general characteristics, there were significant differences for grade, the father’s level of education, and the mother’s level of education as internet addiction levels were high. Anxiety and internet addiction showed a close correlation and a positive correlation was shown with anxiety. After conducting multiple regression analysis to look into factors which affect internet addiction, daily internet use and anxiety were found to be significant factors which affect internet addiction. Conclusion: Based on this research, nursing intervention should be continued through education for elementary school children.
