The aim of this study was to identify the lives of the prisoner's families, covered in the topics that were hardly considered, and to provide the information on policy, practice and service for the family of prisoners. For this purpose, the characteristics of prisoners' children, acceptance of parents, the difficulties and strengths of living, and the desire of the family, by means of depths interview, was investigated for the prisoner's family status. Using qualitative method, five cases were analyzed to explore the living experiences as the prisoners' family. The findings were discussed: the necessity of the support to prevent psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems, economic support for the family, support for a fosterer, advocates from the social prejudices, and the support to strengthen family bonds.

이 연구의 목적은 그동안 국내에서 거의 다루어지지 않았던 주제인 수용자 가족의 삶이 어떠한지 이해하고 수용자 가족에 대한 정책과 서비스 실천에서 고려할 점이 무엇인지를 파악하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 수용자 자녀 특성, 가정실태, 부모 수용에 대한 정보, 생활의 어려움ㆍ욕구ㆍ강점 등을 면접하여 생활실태를 파악하였다. 또한 그중에서 5사례를 선정하여 수용자 가족으로 살아가는 삶의 경험을 심층 파악하였고 이를 질적 사례연구 접근으로 분석하였다. 연구결과를 토대로 수용자 가족에 대한 심리ㆍ정서적ㆍ문제행동 예방, 경제적 지원, 양육자에 대한 지지, 사회적 편견으로부터의 옹호, 가족유대감 강화를 위한 지원의 필요성을 논의하였다.
