This study investigates the need for a cultural anthropological approach to a critical discourse in visual culture art education in order to understand the politics of visual images. An overarching concept of cultural anthropology and the politics of visual images is its emphasis on the meaning and value inquiry into life and culture. Addressing this overlapping boundary, this theoretical inquiry aims to explore that the main goal of visual culture art education is for meaning and value making of life through interpretation of images, becoming, and flight. From this argument, this article expands our recent understanding of visual culture art education that focuses on the development of critical thinking and empowerment. It highlights that visual culture art education has to move toward a way to fulfill the intimate relationship among visual images, culture, and our meaning and value of life. Understanding the politics of visual image requires not only our critical lens but also anthropological lens.

본 연구는 시각 이미지에 대한 인문학적 접근의 일환으로 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 이해를 문화 인류학적 관점에서 살펴볼 필요성을 제기한다. 삶의 의미와 가치를 탐구하는 문화인류학적 관점에서 볼 때, 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 이해와 교육 또한 유사한 삶의 맥락성에 대한 탐구임을 논한다. 즉, 시각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 미술교육은 미술을 통한 해석, 생성, 도주 등과 같은 삶의 의미 만들 기 활동처럼 삶에 대한 문화인류학적 탐색과 다르지 않음을 이론적으로 살펴본다. 이를 통해 비판적 사고와 역량강화라는 시각문화미술교육 담론을 더욱 확장할 수 있는 이론적 근거를 찾아본다. 즉, 시 각 이미지의 정치성에 대한 문화인류학적 접근을 통해 시각문화미술교육에 대한 논의의 확장을 시도 한다.
