This study examines the effects of social relations in childhood on self-concept and school life adjustment using the KCYPS(Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey). It set the basic assumption that parent, teacher and peer relations as the important social relations factors in childhood have causal relationship in self-concept and school life adjustment. this study included 2,363 grade 4 elementary school children as participants(male 1,239 and female 1,124). The analysis programs were SPSS and LISREL. The results of analysis showed that parent, teacher and peer relations had direct and indirect the positive influences on the self-concept and school life adjustment. But the causal relationship of gender had no difference. In sum, these research results confirmed the effects of causal relationship of social relations in childhood on self-concept and school life adjustment. This could provide the basis for a meaningful training program on child development and related research to promote social relationships in childhood.

본 연구는 한국청소년정책연구원에서 제공한 한국 아동․청소년패널조사(KCYPS) 1차 자료를 활용하여 아동의 사회적 관계를 부모, 교사, 교우와의 관계로 설정하고 이러한 특성이 아동기 자아개념 및 학교생활적응에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 확인하는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 초등학교 4학년 남, 여학생 총 2,363명이 표본으로 선정되었다. 본 연구의 자료처리는 아동기 사회적 관계, 자아개념, 학교생활적응의 인과관계를 추정하였으며, 이러한 인과관계 맥락이 성별에 따라 차이가 있는지 확인하기 위해 남학생과 여학생 집단으로 구분하여 구조방정식모형 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 아동의 사회적 관계는 자아개념과 학교생활적응에 중요한 영향을 미치는 요인이며, 자아개념 또한 학교생활적응에 정적효과를 나타내는 요인임을 확인하였다. 또한 사회적 관계는 자아개념을 매개하여 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는 인과관계를 나타내는 것으로 분석되었으나 성별 간에 인과관계 맥락의 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 아동기 자아개념과 학교생활적응에 영향을 미치는 사회적 관계의 중요성을 확인할 수 있으며, 아동기 사회적 관계 증진을 위한 아동교육 프로그램 개발 및 관련 연구에 의미 있는 기초 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
