The purpose of this study was to explore the conceptual structure of caring climate in dance education. Based on Noddings’ caring concept, this study was focused on what features both students’ and instructors’ perceived caring climate have, respectively. Participants were 10 dance instructors and 21 elementary school students. Data were collected through open questionnaires and in-depth interviews, and the data were analyzed and inductively categorized through a review by a panel of experts. The outcomes were as follows. First, 167 raw data were collected from the instructors, and they were classified into 34 items. The 34 items were categorized into nine components, and labeled as praise, fostering competency, familiarity, interaction, understanding, respect, passion, arousing interest, and helping. Second, 132 raw data were collected from the students, and they were classified into 32 items. The 32 items were categorized into 12 components, and labeled as praise, fostering competency, skinship, familiarity, interaction, understanding, fairness, passion, arousing interest, fun, kindness, and helping. Third, the categories of caring climate which were found only from the students were skinship, fairness, and kindness. In conclusion, it is expected that this study can trigger the research of caring climate in dance education field. Furthermore, it would be great if scale development and validation research of caring climate in dance could be followed up in the future.

본 연구의 목적은 무용 교육 현장에서 나타나는 케어링 분위기의 개념을 탐색하고 구조화 하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 Noddings의 케어링 개념을 바탕으로 무용 교육 상황에서 무용 교사와 초등학생들이 인식하고 있는 케어링 분위기가 각각 어떠한 특성이 있는지에 초점을 맞추어 진행되었다. 연구 참여자는 10명의 무용 교사와 21명의 초등학생이었다. 자료들은 개방형 설문지와 심층면담을 거쳐 수집되었으며, 수집된 자료들은 전문가 회의를 통해 귀납적 범주화 과정을 통해 분석되었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 무용 교사로부터 총 167개의 원자료가 수집되었고, 34개의 항목으로 세분화되었다. 세분화된 항목들은 ‘칭찬’, ‘유능감 지지’, ‘관심’, ‘소통’, ‘이해’, ‘존중’, ‘열정’, ‘흥미유발 및 재미’, ‘도움’, 총 9개 요소로 명명되었다. 둘째, 초등학생들로부터 132개의 원자료가 도출되었고, 32개의 항목으로 세분화되었다. 세분화된 항목들은 ‘칭찬’, ‘유능감지지’, ‘스킨십’, ‘관심’, ‘소통’, ‘이해’, ‘공정성’, ‘열정’, ‘흥미유발 및 재미’. ‘친절’, ‘도움’, 총 12개 요소로 명명 되었다. 셋째, 무용 교사와 초등학생들에게 도출된 요소들은 각각 빈도수 차이가 다르게 나타났으며, 초등학생 집단에서만 스킨십, 공정성, 친절 요소가 탐색되어졌다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 무용 현장에서 적합한 케어링 분위기 연구를 위한 시발점일 뿐만 아니라, 향후 무용 교육에서 케어링 분위기 측정 도구 개발 및 타당성 검증과 양적 연구가 기대된다.
