This study is focused on the gifted education program, "EEE" of Columbia Public Schools in Missouri. This program is recommended to follow NAGC Pre-K-Grade 12 Gifted programming standards(NAGC, 2010) and Missouri school laws(MDESE, 2012b), but is allowed to run autonomically without any support in a federal or state level. The characteristics of EEE are as follows: ⦁emphasizing not only on the cognitive development but also on the social and affective/emotional development of the gifted students ⦁encouraging each student's own interest by allowing him/her to select his/her major and minor ⦁the variety of classes ⦁the call-up class - discriminating from regular classes ⦁the interdisciplinary approach - connecting many subjects around the main idea ⦁the activity-based learning such as hands-on activities, projects, and simple experiments ⦁using the individual activity as well as pair or group activity In special, this paper also contains an example of program about mathematics and suggests some implications for our gifted education programs.

학습자의 학습 능력 및 발달에 따른 차이는 교육 실제에서 고려되어야 하는 중요한 요소로 인식되는 바, 일반 학생에 비해 특정 영역에서 우수함을 드러 내는 영재 학생의 인지적, 정의적 요구를 충족시키기 위해 양질의 영재교육 프로그램을 마련하여 운영하는 것은 교육적 진보의 척도로 간주할 만하다. 2000년 영재교육진흥법을 마련한 이래 영재교육에 대한 관심이 증폭된 지 십 여 년이 지난 현 시점에서, 본 연구는 미국의 초등 영재교육 프로그램의 한 가지 사례를 검토하고 그로부터 교육적 함의를 얻는 것을 목표로 한다. 자율 성과 책무성에 기초한 다양성을 특징으로 하는 미국의 교육 상황에서 영재교 육 프로그램의 규준을 고찰하고 그것이 미주리 주 콜롬비아 시 교육청에 의 해 어떻게 해석되어 실천되고 있는지, 그 구체적인 사례인 EEE 프로그램의 목표 및 운영 실제에 대해 상세히 검토할 것이다. 특히 수학 프로그램 활동 사례도 포함할 것이다.
