The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between multi-cultural awareness and human rights sensitivity of officials on protection division. For the research questions, survey method was applied from 476 officials on protection division who is working at probation. A statistical package SPSS WIN21.0 was employed, and multiple analysis of variance, Scheffe’s test and Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient test were performed. The major findings of the study is as follows: First, officials on protection division’s multi-cultural awareness is higher than average. Second, the experiences contacting with foreigners have statistically significant effects on multi-cultural awareness. Third, the officials on protection division has middle level on the human rights. Fourth, there existed significant correlation between multi-cultural awareness and human rights. This study suggest that we need the multi-cultural awareness promotion program and the study about enhancing multi-cultural competencies for officials on protection division.

본 연구는 법무부 보호직 공무원의 다문화 인식과 인권감수성과의 관계를 살펴봄으로써 보호직 공무원들의 인권의식을 바탕으로 다문화에 대한 인식을 전환하고 확대할 수 있는 방안을 제시해 보고자 하였다. 전국 10개 소년원과 52개 보호관찰소에서 근무하는 법무부 보호직공무원 총 476명을 대상으로 설문을 실시한 후 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21 프로그램을 이용하여 다원변량분석과 Scheffe 사후검증, Pearson상관분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 보호직 공무원의 다문화 인식정도는 중간수준 이상을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 개인별 특성에 따른 다문화 인식정도는 근무경력, 학력에 따라 다문화 인식에 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 그러나, 해외경험 및 다문화적 배경을 가진 사람과의 접촉 여부 등 다문화 경험에 따른 다문화 인식에서는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 보호직 공무원의 인권감수성은 보통 수준으로 나타났다. 보호직공무원의 다문화인식과 인권감수성과의 상관관계는 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로, 다양한 배경을 가진 비행 청소년을 지도, 감독하게 될 보호직 공무원을 위한 다문화 인식 증진 의 필요성에 대해 강조하였다.
