‘School violence’, ‘ostracizing’, and ‘an increase in the negative perceptions of students regarding school life’ are educational issues which must be discussed in social dimensions and not in individual dimensions. While diverse educational policies are being presented to resolve such issues, for those policies to be more than temporary prescriptions that only reduce negative phenomena, educational approaches which aim for moral growth should be prerequisites. This study considered the intention points and methodologies of logotherapy, which is healing through meaning, to be educational approaches that can aid the moral growth of students and presented a plan for moral education through meaning finding. Moral education through finding meaning includes the significance of ‘therapy’ and ‘education’ in that it aids students to actively find meaning in life and value even within pain, hardship, and frustration experienced due to existential characteristics. Also, by making self-transcendent qualities of human existence prerequisites in finding meaning, it emphasizes that interaction in class must be a process of real encounter and conversation and not self-expression or mutual monologues. In the process of ‘finding meaning’, it is not the teacher instructing the student of what the teacher thinks is meaningful but aiding the student to find the meaning of life within themselves. It is anticipated that moral education conducted through finding meaning will allow students to discover the ethical possibilities of humans who have free will and that it will contribute to resolving educational issues by realizing the ultimate purpose of moral education by helping them live valuable and meaningful lives.

‘학교 폭력’, ‘따돌림’, ‘학교생활에 대한 학생들의 부정적 인식의 증가’ 등은 개인적 차원의 문제가 아니라 사회적 차원에서 논의되어야 할 교육문제가 되었다. 이러한 문제들을 해결하기 위한 다양한 교육정책이 제시되고 있지만 그것이 부정적 현상만을 감소시키려는 일시적 처방이 되지 않기 위해서는 인격적 성장을 지향하는 교육적 접근이 전제되어야 한다. 본 연구는 의미를 통한 치료(healing through meaning)인 로고테라피(logotherapy)의 지향점과 방법론이 학생들의 인격적 성장을 돕는 교육적 접근이 될 수 있다고 여기고 의미 찾기를 통한 도덕과교육 방안을 제시하였다. 의미 추구를 통한 도덕과교육은, 실존적 특징으로 인해 겪게 되는 고통, 시련, 좌절 속에서도 학생들이 능동적으로 삶의 의미와 가치를 찾을 수 있도록 돕는다는 점에서 ‘치료(therapy)’와 ‘교육’의 의미를 모두 포함하고 있다. 그리고, 의미 추구에서 인간 실존의 자기 초월성(self-transcendent quality)을 전제함으로써 수업에서 상호작용이 자기 표현이나 상호 독백이 아닌 진정한 조우와 대화의 과정이 되어야 한다는 것을 강조한다. ‘의미 추구’ 과정에서, 교사는 교사가 의미 있다고 생각하는 것을 학생에게 알려주고 이해시키는 것이 아니라 학생 스스로의 내면에서 삶의 의미를 찾을 수 있도록 도와주어야 한다. 의미 추구를 통한 도덕과교육이, 학생들이 자유의지를 가진 인간의 윤리적 가능성을 발견하고 가치 있고 의미 있는 삶을 살아가도록 함으로써 도덕과교육의 궁극적 목적을 실현하고 교육 문제를 해결하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
