The purpose of this research is to estimate economic value of the traditional stories(local legends) for establishment of the basis of cultural industry. We estimated willingness to pay and total benefit for traditional stories by using onsite ‘Double-bounded dichotomous choice Contingent Valuation’ survey in Chungbuk. The in-person 598 survey results show that ‘relatively higher income and married person and less suggestion cost’ makes substantially the positive effect on Willing-to-pay. But age and academic ability makes the negative effect on Willing-to-pay. The Willing-to-pay estimates by ‘Double-bounded dichotomous choice Contingent Valuation’ is about ￦5000~8000(person/year) according to the model. If expansion to Chungbuk province, the Willing-to-pay of local traditional stories values is calculated to be ￦20billion. Hence, the result proves that the local traditional stories is very useful as a culture and economic resources. And its result could be fundamental data on economic analysis on culture public policy.

지역 설화를 대상으로 각종 문화콘텐츠 개발에 대한 요구나 필요성은 급증했지만 정작 문화산업으로 크게 활성화되고 있지는 못하다. 따라서 본 연구는 지역 설화를 활용한 문화산업 개발의 근거 마련을 위해 지역 설화가 갖는 경제적 가치를 추정하고자 한다. 이를 위해 충북지역을 대상으로 조건부가치추정법을 사용하여 이중양분선택형 설문을 통해 지역의 전통 이야기의 가치를 추정하였다. 추정 결과, 연령ㆍ학력ㆍ소득ㆍ결혼 여부 등이 주요변수로 작용하는 것이 확인되었다. 전통 이야기의 계승ㆍ발전을 위해 비용을 부담할 의사는 제시금액이 작을수록, 기혼자의 경우, 고소득의 경우가 반대의 경우에 비해 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 모델 설정 시의 가설에 부합하는 결과이나 연령과 학력은 유의성은 있으나 부호는 반대의 결과가 나왔다. 시장가치로 환산된 충북 전통 이야기의 가치는 모델과 사용변수에 따라 상이하나 크게 1인당 1년에 5000원대 ~ 8000원대의 가치를 갖는 것으로 분석되었다. 이것을 충북전체에 적용하면 연간 약 200억 원의 가치에 해당하는 만족감을 지역 전통 이야기를 통해 지역주민이 느끼고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 향후 지역 전통 이야기와 관련된 문화산업 및 관련 정책의 수립 및 추진에 근거자료는 물론 정책 평가 및 보완에도 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
