This study started with a view to combining an industry-university cooperative capstone design course with sustainable fashion. The purpose of this study was to present a university education program for sustainable fashion using the industry-university cooperative capstone design. Literature review was conducted on sustainable fashion, sustainable fashion education in a university level, and capstone design based on the problem-based learning(PBL). Fairtradekorea,Ltd. was selected as an industry partner, and juniors majoring in textile & fashion design in a metropolitan region university accomplished the capstone design. Under the PBL procedure, course followed 5 steps hierarchically; class development, problem identification, problem research & solving, findings presentation, learning evaluation. Results enhanced students’ metacognitive and problem solving skills as well as real-world practices, giving new ideas to industry that practices sustainable fashion and needs innovative design ability. This study presented a framework for course design and provided pedagogical disciplines that can be used to develop and launch a sustainable fashion design course which is a subject of increasing importance.

본 연구는 산학협동 캡스톤 디자인과 지속가능한 패션이라는 두 가지 개념을 결합시키고자 하는 목표에서 출발하였다. 연구의 목적은 지속가능한 패션을 개발하는 패션기업과의 산학협동 캡스톤 디자인 수업을 통하여 지속가능한 패션을 위한 대학의 교육프로그램을 제시하는 것이다. 먼저, 이론적 배경으로 지속가능한 패션, 대학의 지속가능한 패션 교육, 문제중심학습에 기반한 캡스톤 디자인에 대해 알아보고 이에 관한 선행연구를 고찰하였다. (주)페어트레이드 코리아를 선정한 후, 수도권소재 대학교 섬유패션디자인전공 3학년 학생들이 캡스톤 디자인을 수행하였다. 문제중심학습 모형에 따라 수업전개, 문제의 제시, 문제의 분석 및 해결, 결과물 발표, 학습결과 정리 및 평가의 순서로 진행하였다. 캡스톤 디자인 수업을 통해 학생들은 인지적 문제해결 기술과 실무능력을 고취하였으며, 지속가능한 패션의 진정한 실천자이지만 디자인과 혁신역량이 부족한 중소기업에게는 새로운 시각을 제공하였다. 또한, 제시한 캡스톤 디자인 수업내용과 교육방법은 그 중요성이 날로 커지고 있는 지속가능한 패션디자인 교과과정 개발에 기초자료를 제공할 수 있다.
