The purpose of this study is to analyze Australia's vocational education & training system(VET) being operated successfully and to suggest implications for Korea's vocational education and training system. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, at first, the actual situation of Korean vocational education & training system was analyzed for the change of direction. Secondly, the main features of the Australian vocational education & training systems, which was operating methods and operational effectiveness were analyzed, Thirdly, the quality assurance system of Australian vocational education & training was analyzed. Finally, the implications for vocational education & training in Korea based on the Australian Vocational Education & Training was derived. The research methods was a single case study of policy comparison research methods. Data collection for the study of a single case study was conducted through the literature of Australia's vocational education & training literature including journals, research reports, issue papers, research organizations, field research and expert interviews. Also, trip report of 2013 field survey and expert interviews December 1 to December 7 in Australia in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne was taken advantaged in order to be investigated. Especially VET institutions like TAFE and relevant government agencies were visited and interviewed. The features of Australia's VET system are strong industry leadership and engagement, nationally agreed and consistent quality standards, nationally recognised competency based qualifications, supports on-the-job skill development and recognition of prior learning for workers who may have developed skills in the workplace. The direction of Korean vocational education & training should be more flexible and open system to be able to provide anybody a variety of ways to in order to develop their vocational competency at any time based on nationally consistent quality assurance system.

이 연구는 호주의 직업교육체계가 성공적으로 운영되고 있는 요인이 무엇인지를 분석하여 그것 이 우리나라의 직업교육훈련체계에 주는 시사점을 도출하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적을 달성 하기 위해서 첫째, 우리나라 직업교육훈련의 실태를 분석하여 변화 방향을 도출하였고, 둘째, 호주 직업교육훈련 체계의 주요 특징, 운영 방식 및 운영 효과를 분석하였으며, 셋째, 호주 직업교육훈 련의 품질 보증체계를 분석하였다. 마지막으로, 호주 직업교육훈련 고찰을 바탕으로 우리나라 직 업교육훈련에 주는 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구 방법은 비교정책연구 중 단일 사례연구방법을 활용하였다. 단일 사례연구를 위한 자료 수집을 위해 문헌연구, 현장조사, 전문가인터뷰 등을 실시하였다. 문헌연구는 호주의 직업교육훈 련에 대한 국내 학술지, 연구보고서, 이슈페이퍼, 연구기관의 출장보고서 등을 활용하여 분석의 기 초 자료로 활용하였다. 현장조사 및 전문가 인터뷰는 2013년 12월 1일부터 12월 7일까지 호주 의 시드니, 캔버라, 맬버른 지역을 조사하였으며, 직업교육훈련과 관련된 정부기관, 훈련기관 등을 방문 및 면담하였다.
